Anyway I was just trying to get the word out because this article needs another POV rather than just from obvious students who use this article as a stage for academic boosterism. We need a wide range of others who can provide a more balanced point of view about the institution, especially because of recent accusations of institutional racism, problems with student riots, and problems with alcohol. These problems are overshadowed by an elitist college riding on a reputation. I also disagree with your notion this would constitute canvassing, since the votes on WP:AID are only support votes. And all that counts is the number of editors willing to make a contribution to that article. Canvassing involves support and oppose votes where a decision is reached upon the difference between support and oppose votes. Messages on talk pages of portals or projects for instance. Speedystickd's way would only be disruptive if the targeted editors object to being asked to vote; asking for support on portal or project talk pages is never disruptive. I tried to work out what was going on and fix it myself but got all confused (and lazy). I you agree, I propose that after I've finished the archive, you check it and I delete it and we can always call it back in the very unlikely event that someone want it. Alternatively, we could keep the archive. I've never archived before (aren't there bots for that sort of thing?) so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just trying to make that discussion page more usable. I don't imagine that G3 would be appropriate here either, even as the text is plainly apropos of a non-existent issue, but that's a discussion to which I don't imagine we need to get, if only because, to be sure, the project is in no way harmed—indeed, is bettered—by your having speedied the article. User:Trrbende added nonsense to an article, which I reverted twice, so the user swore at me on my user page. I looked at the Admin Noticeboard, and this simple scenario does not seem to meet the requirements for any of the sections: the only "warning" the user received was hardly appropriate (and was given after the edit to my user page, which also was not reverted, if in fact that edit was seen). I refuse in principle to give a no-personal-attacks warning when I'm the one attacked. (Also, it really isn't what I would define as a "personal attack".) After some discussion about changing the name of the "Working Man's Barnstar" to something gender inclusive, we realized that there is not much distinction between "Working Man's Barnstar" and the "Barnstar of Diligence". In order to avoid an overly-PC rename of "Working Man's", and given that there's not much difference between the two anyway, I thought it'd be best to conflate the two awards and have only "The Barnstar of Diligence." From what I understood we are supposed to tag MCB-related articles on their talk page if they aren't in the list yet. But are we also supposed to rate their importance and current state ourselves or not? Maybe you have noticed I added a few articles to the list and in those cases I also gave them a rating but I saw some people adding articles to the list and leave the assessment blank. So, what are we supposed to do? Also, do you use some kind of bot to create the list? Would that mean that adding a tag to the talk page of the corresponding article is enough and from time to time your bot would update the list?? While much of my main research focuses onbone, orthopaedics, drugs, etc., I tend to spend most of my edit time fixing up basic cell biology such as cell culture, immunostaining, etc. I think I'll spend the time (when I have it) fxing up the stem cell field a bit more. Many of the articles I looked at recently multipotency vs pluripotency, progenitor cell, etc. were either stubs or contained incorrect information. Part of the challenge I think for the Wikiproject (which you will be coordinator for) will be keeping the right level of depth. It is tempting to put in a lot of detail (e.g. recent changes to glycolysis). I have a PhD in biochemistry and molecular genetics, and I find that page heavy going! Hi Clockwork, I’m sending this message out to about 4-5 people I’ve worked with here on Wikipedia. I've done a few diagrams with/in concjuction with the MCB project. This isn't a blind carbon copy to 1000 people. Sorry its only partially wiki-related... Basically as you probably know I make a lot of diagrams for use on Wikipedia in my spare time while studying a Biochemistry BSc (hons) degree at the University of Sussex in the UK. Next year (in my final year) I’m planning on starting up a medical graphics company. Its been suggested to me more than once that some of my diagrams are as good as, if not better than those presently in research papers and text books, so it seems like a good logical progression (and more so something I enjoy!) to start up a company producing them. But without a reputation, and as a nameless student work will be stagnant or non-existent. So I’m desperately trying to make a small name for myself and to build a credible reputation as both a scientist and artist. So to cut to the chase what I’m messaging people about is just to say please please please, if you or any of your colleagues are publishing research articles/text books etc. and need bespoke diagrams please get them in touch, I would be forever grateful! I’m very very happy to do the jobs for free as I enjoy them anyway and the exposure would help me no end! They have nothing to lose, if they don’t like what I produce its not like they paid for it, and are under no obligation to use it. I can’t stress how helpful a diagram in a published work would be for me. I do have a portfolio of generally better work than the pics here on Wikipedia, but examples to show colleagues are those such as: Anyway, as always if you need any diagrams done here on Wikipedia, I’m an email away! To me, it seems to add some confusion: it's the only image, so folk will think that's what they look like that it's not clearly disambiguated that it's a yellowjacket and not an AGH (pardon abbrev.!) either of the two above would fix it. I see that the image is up for picture of the day. Be good to fix it before that - a nice pic would be best (none on the German or Polish versions) Widefox 01:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC) Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject Newsletter The project main page has gotten a facelift! When people visit the project, the very first thing that they see tends to be the project's main page, and with this in mind, the main page has been completely overhauled. To enhance readability the various "goals" sections have been merged, and a detailed "how you can help" section has been added. To increase accessibility for more established members, the links to any resources that were in the main body text have been moved onto the navigation bar on the right. Finally, the whole page has been nicely laid out and given a nice attractive look. New project feature: peer review I'm proud to announce the addition of out newest feature: peer review! The MCB peer review feature aims serve as a stepping stone to improve articles to featured article status by allowing editors to request the opinions of other members about articles that they might not otherwise see or contribute to. Project progress The article worklist We’ve had quite a bit of progress on the worklist article in the past month. Not only has the list itself nearly doubled in size from 143 to 365 entries, but an amazing three articles have been advanced to FA status, thanks in great part to the efforts of our very own TimVickers! Remember, the state of the worklist is the closest thing we have to quantifying the progress of the project, so if you get the chance, please take a look at the list, pick a favorite article, and improve it! Collaboration of the Month Last month's Collaboration of the Month, cell nucleus, was a terrific success! In one month, the article went from a dismal stub to an A-class article. Many thanks to all of the collaborators who contributed, especially ShaiM, who took on the greatest part of the burden. This month's Collaboration of the Month, adenosine triphosphate, isn't getting nearly the attention of its predecessor, so if you can, please lend a hand! Finally... The project has a new coordinator, ClockworkSoul! The role - my role - of coordinator will be to harmonize the project's common efforts, in part by organizing the various tasks required to make the project run as smoothly and completely as possible. Did you notice the recent changes that were made to the article? In particular the new sentence in the introduction? Did you see the new section about the qualifications (or rather lack of qualifications) Kt66 added? Please believe me when I say I don't mind an article on the NKT that mentions criticism but what is happening here is simply not fair. Would it be possible to delete the current article and ask an administrator to write a new article? Only the administrator should be allowed to edit the article. He could receive advice from the users on the talk page. The article should then be blocked to prevent any further changes. Would such a procedure be possible on WP at all??? Otherwise, I think we should follow Jimmy Wales advice and have no article on the NKT at all rather than one that is a constant battle ground for partisans. Do you have any other ideas? Please think about your responsibility as an WP administrator. Thank you. Funnily enough, a girl at the conference came up to me at after dinner drinks and asked me if I was "Dr Aaron" from wikipedia. Ha ha. If you get a chance, I'd be interested on your opinion of my revision attempts on the Stem cell controversy. I'm not sure if it should be an MCB article & get graded.
