Simplewiki and redwarn

[edit]

Hi! It came up on simple:WP:ST someone requesting access to Redwarn on Simple wiki. I'm not super familiar with the tool - is it possible? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Lee Vilenski! Sorry for the late reply; I've been a bit busy over the past few days. RedWarn, specifically, is notoriously difficult to get working on other wikis. There's a lot of things it relies on that are specific to the English Wikipedia, and it's also uses English Wikipedia URLs directly in making edits or opening pages. Ultraviolet somewhat addresses these by making it more configurable for use on other wikis, but it needs some extra configuration. I believe someone on the team was working on it at some point, but I haven't received an update on it for a while. I'll try to ask them, and get back to you when I know more. Trouble with Attribution Notice Template Editor

[edit]

I have tried to use your script User:Chlod/Scripts/Deputy/AttributionNoticeTemplateEditor.js to add "translated from" notices to the talk pages of Monaco Info and Tauros Programme, but clicking Save just causes the page to freeze up and I have no choice but to close the tab. How should I try to debug this? I have no other part of Deputy installed. Reconrabbit 15:27, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Reconrabbit! There could be error messages generated by your browser that you can access through the instructions at WP:JSERROR. If you do find something, please do send the details. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:08, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I looked into the console and found that when I try to use the tool it returns this:
Source map error: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource. Resource URL: moz-extension://85b28f97-aec9-49be-9c5a-5a895a53d078/model/static/DOMPurify/purify.min.js Source Map URL: purify.min.js.map
followed by a whole lot of messages that look like this:
Source map error: No sources are declared in this source map. Resource URL: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/load.php?lang=en&modules=mediawiki.ForeignApi&skin=vector&version=lxr52 Source Map URL: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/load.php?lang=en&modules=mediawiki.ForeignApi&skin=vector&sourcemap=1&version=lxr52

@Reconrabbit: I think I know what issue you're talking about now, but it's unrelated from these errors that you've posted. Give me a sec and I'll take a look! Chlod (top • contribs) 16:52, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Reconrabbit: I've made some changes which should have solved this issue. Can you check if that worked? Chlod (top • contribs) 17:22, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can confirm that the page no longer freezes upon clicking "Save", and that I can close the dialogue, but nothing logs in the console and no changes are made to the talk page. Tested on Monaco Info. Reconrabbit 17:25, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Reconrabbit: Changes should be made if the dialog closed when clicking on the "Save" button. You can try to get a diff preview by clicking on the button at the bottom left. If there's "no difference", then nothing being saved is expected. If the dialog isn't closing, then a field may still be invalid (which shows a red border). Otherwise, something else is amiss. Chlod (top • contribs) 17:36, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can view the preview just fine, and the diff looks correct, but clicking Save does nothing. I tried it on Firefox and Edge browsers. Reconrabbit 18:27, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Reconrabbit! Sorry for the late reply. I still haven't been able to find out the issue here. Would you be able to provide a screen recording of what's happening? Chlod (top • contribs) 23:43, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Chlod: I can do that later in the day, probably around 0:00 UTC at the earliest though. I have found that for the main template I would use this tool for {{Translated from}} CFA's script is often all I need but having this will be a benefit for those places where it isn't the case or I come across already-attributed articles without the template. The option to specify revision numbers and section is also a nice addition to that one. Reconrabbit 14:44, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from EraBlind (18:32, 19 January 2025)

[edit]

Hello How to publish article from sandbox? --EraBlind (talk) 18:32, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @EraBlind! Sorry for being late to reply. To submit a draft, place {{subst:Submit}} at the top and a new page reviewer will check the page eventually. Chlod (top • contribs) 23:33, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Taleeftamsal (15:59, 20 January 2025)

[edit]

Hi Chlod, just curious about how editing works and how one is supposed to contribute to an article, especially how it is corroborated by others --Taleeftamsal (talk) 15:59, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Taleeftamsal! On Wikipedia, there's a wide range of edits that one can do to any article. This can be writing content and adding information into articles, or doing maintenance like typo and grammar cleanup. Most information is corroborated by other editors who are actively "watching" (monitoring for changes) an article or by "patrollers" who monitor most recent changes on the wiki. To help in this, usually patrollers and editors look for a citation to a reliable source, and undo the change as necessary if the edit does not contain a source, or if it has other demonstrable problems.
If you'd like to get started on editing, check out Help:Getting started for a good list of introduction pages and basic information about Wikipedia. Hope to see more of your edits in the future! Chlod (top • contribs) 23:25, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
