Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "CharlesPatriciaLester", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because usernames that imply you might be another specified person are not really allowed per WP:IMPERSONATE, and based upon this post CharlesPatriciaLester is not your real name. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:55, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Charles and Patricia Lester requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.charles-patricia-lester.co.uk/charles-patricia-lester-biography/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. In reply to your contested deletion

[edit]

I am replying here rather than on the draft article talk page because unless you rewrite the draft from a neutral point of view, the talk page will be deleted in a few minutes along with the draft. Wikipedia does not tolerate promotional articles or copyright violations. Wikipedia does not care one bit what the subject of an article wants the article to say. —teb728 t c 10:49, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am getting different answers from three different people! This is very confusing. I do not see how I can re-write the text, it is in the third person and it gives my opinion and facts about them.

Can you please co-ordinate with the other people that are writing to me as I am trying to deal with three different responses from Wikipedia.

This is most confusing.Vikki Kerry (talk) 11:11, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vikki, you are not getting inconsistent messages. There are four messages--all of which are true. Not everybody is giving you all of the messages, but nobody is contradicting any of them:
  • Autobiographies are strongly discouraged.
  • Your draft is subject to speedy deletion for being unambiguously promotional.
  • Your draft is subject to speedy deletion for being a copyright violation.
  • Your original username was unacceptable.
You say, "it gives my opinion" That is the problem: You must not give your opinion in the voice of Wikipedia. —teb728 t c 11:34, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

In response to your points above

Autobiographies are strongly discouraged - this is not an autobiography - I know this couple and I wanted to write about them

Your draft is subject to speedy deletion for being unambiguously promotional. - what does unambiguously promotional mean? I would be grateful if you could give me an example but I used the page of Stella McCartney as a guideline for what to add, I will try again.

Your draft is subject to speedy deletion for being a copyright violation. - I have taken things from their website - which was written by them so is correct and the facts are accurate so I will use only the facts.

Your original username was unacceptable. - I have changed this to my name

You say, "it gives my opinion" That is the problem: You must not give your opinion in the voice of Wikipedia - OH OK I will stick to facts about them.

I will try again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I'll add a welcome message with some useful links. In particular you need to read WP:Your first article, and also read about published independent reliable sources and how to use them as references. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:55, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict-of-interest editing

[edit]

Hi Vikki Kerry. I posted something about conflict-of-interest editing at the end of my last post at c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Charles-and-Patricia-w.jpg but I try to explain more about that here. COI editing is not expressly prohibitted by Wikipedia, but the creating/editing of articles of topic you may have a personal or professional connection to is something that tends to be highly discouraged. Paid editing especially can be quite problematic when it comes to Wikipedia because the person doing the editing sometimes has very different goals from Wikipedia's goals. I am not saying you are being paid by the Lesters to write this article, but what to point out that COI editors are also sometimes viewed just as suspiciously by others and that even an apparrent COI can cause problems. So, it might be a good idea for you to read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide to see what kinds of edits are considered acceptable for COI editors to make. Please note that there is nothing wrong with COI editing as long as it maintains a neutral point of view and follows Wikipedia's various other policies and guidelines. COI editors working on drafts are given a bit of leeway since it is believed that reviewers and other editors will help clean the article up before it is added as an article. Also, since you are writing about living people, you need to pay extra special attention to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and make sure none of the content you add violates any of that policy. Good luck to you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:59, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
