Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, as you forgot on your recent edit to Census of Marine Life‎. Thank you. Mfield (talk) 21:22, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Census of Diversity of Abyssal Marine Life requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on Census of Antarctic Marine Life requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Notability

[edit]

Hi, I see you are creating stubs for these COML projects. Make sure you include a statement in them that imparts notability in order to avoid these speedy nominations by the new page patrollers. Something sourced that makes their importance clear - 'largest census of its kind ever completed', that kind of think. Links to big well known universities and institutions and any press in well known publications. If there is at least an assertion of notability then the articles are ineligible for speedy under that criteria. Mfield (talk) 18:48, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've tried to include reputable press for the projects to prevent deletion. Are the ones being included not reputable enough? I'm a little confused by exactly at what level of reputability it requires. If you read the notability guidelines they explain the overview of the requirements, obviously they differ from subject to subject but the key thing is coverage by primary independent sources. The thing about the speedy deletion nominations that you have had, is that they come very quickly after creation of an article, from people who watch the new page creations for unsuitable material being added to WP. They often jump the gun by nominating articles that are under contstruction, the easy way to avoid that is to create the pages in your userspace first e.g. in User:Bwvanlan/temp or similar and make sure they are more complete before copying them into their final location. If you can get past that initial hurdle, deletions have to be proposed or voted on in an AfD nomination, which takes a week or so. Speedy deletions, which can be frustrating, are not permitted on articles that make an assertion of notability, and generally will be declined by an admin if the article is not promotional in nature, is created by an editor without a history of bad contributions, is obviously under construction. To that end it is worth tagging your initial creations with {{underconstruction}} to make it clear to the patrollers that you are adding more information. Mfield (talk) 19:50, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On another note, the COML logo that you uploaded has in incorrect license, you have claimed to be the copyright holder, although the copyright obviously resides with the organization istelf. The logo either needs to be explicitly released under a creative commons or GFDL license by the organization for it to be uploaded to Commons, or it needs to be uploaded to En:WP under fair use with the appropriate rationale. Let me know if you need help with that. As is it will probably be deleted soon as well. Mfield (talk) 19:50, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Biogeography of Deep-Water Chemosynthetic Ecosystems, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. L07ChLeo3 (talk) 21:07, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for File:250px-CoML Logo.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:250px-CoML Logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. File permission problem with File:Goma-logo.jpg

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Goma-logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 23:09, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Continental Margin Ecosystems

[edit]

The article Continental Margin Ecosystems has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not-notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Abductive (talk) 10:55, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
