Old Rugby League Player Images

Boylo, absolutely wrapped with the images of Dally Messenger, Herb Steinohrt, Tom Gorman and Harry Bath. I've just raised a general question on the Project discission page as to whether we would go a little smaller in image size though I have no expertise in this area at all. Would love your help in finding more for the lots of articles I've started on long dead players. How do you find them ? -Sticks66 12:53, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Following the great steer you gave us re the pre-1955 copyright rationale, Florrie has helped me succesfully upload a number of old RL images on that basis. But we've found that shots sourced from the State Library of NSW say Not a free image - This image is provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the prior permission of the State Library of NSW.. In reading the rationale I imagine that if the shot was taken pre 1/1/55 then we can just go on and use it - as copyright has expired. But can the website hosting the shot override this as the Library seems to be doing ? What do you think ? Do you know any other Aust contributor knowledgeable in this area ? -Sticks66 11:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Danger! tm

Oy vey. I don't know if you care much, but it amuses me that after I gave this one a verbal spanking on the Novels Election page, he calls me a naughty name on my talk page. What do you think; should I post his message to the Election page, to help ensure he gets even fewer votes, assuming anyone actually care enough to vote next month? re: The Novels WikiProject Newsletter

Hi, Boylo, how goes it? Truth be told, I haven't a clue what has happened to the newsletter. Feydey was acting as temporary editor, so it may just be a case of lost interest. (That seems to be the story for most of the Project these days.) If you're willing, perhaps you can contact them and see if they need help with the task? Every other editor listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Outreach is either inactive or has resigned, so more hands would certainly be great. If you need help, just let me know. María (habla conmigo) 02:07, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Hm, I didn't receive an email, so I'm not sure what happened there. You know, I didn't want to be the lead coordinator of the project; I thought there would be a committee and I would be a member, but that didn't work out quite as planned. So don't think I'm running this joint! I simply don't have the time, unfortunately. If you want to take over and revitalize the newsletter, go ahead. I was thinking that the Project could do something similar to what WP:FILM has going underway right this minute in regards to an active member "roll call". You can see the announcement near the bottom of my talk page. Basically, we can weed out the inactive or uninterested members and then begin a discussion with the active members about how to improve WP:NOVELS. What do you think? María (habla conmigo) 12:07, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. I agree that we should probably leave the elections until next month, and they should definitely be better organized and publicized. While trying to think of some kind of intro for myself, I'll begin the page for the active members list and send you the link. Were you thinking of sending out the roll call and newsletter separately? That way would garner more attention. Of course, I don't mean you... do you know of an available bot to send out these notices? María (habla conmigo) 12:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I updated the Members list, clearing out the "Active" section. I figured after a certain time, the users left in "Incumbent" can be moved to "Inactive". I glanced at the newsletter in your sandbox, and it's looking good. Will the "Member news" be updated with info about the roll call, however? Perhaps we should also have a "Project news" section to help advertise peer reviews, assessments, etc. María (habla conmigo) 12:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid that the newsletter may become too unwieldy if much more is added; it's already quite wordy and although this is the Novels WikiProject, I fear that our members might be turned off by such an onslaught of information. I think it's safe to say that the collaboration department is dead at the moment, so does this truly need mentioning? The C-class info, although pertinent, is also somewhat unnecessary, I would say. I'm also not sure if I should be referred to as the "lead coordinator" -- perhaps by default I am, but it's not a task I wanted or think I can handle. I think the Project should start from scratch in a couple months; new and better handled elections, multiple coordinators, etc. Until then it may be best not to put emphasis on me, since I'm certainly not leading anything. ;) I think it should go in this order: roll call/newsletter, call for participation, then elections. Hopefully people will wake up. María (habla conmigo) 13:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
The newsletter looks good to me; great work! Stealing completely from WP:FILM, I made a notice for the roll call and elections in my sandbox. What do you think? Too similar? María (habla conmigo) 12:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Great, I hope it works! I thought the "joined by" note would be superfluous if this roll call is held annually; inactive members will therefore be weeded out on a more regular basis and there's really no need to keep track of specific joining dates for new members. Besides, I always thought it looked sloppy. Let me know if you need anything else. María (habla conmigo) 14:02, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I was going to go ahead and send out the message for the roll call throughout today. Oh, have you seen that Kevinalewis is semi-active again? He said he may get his bot running again, so maybe he'll have an idea about newsletter distribution? María (habla conmigo) 13:34, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Finally finished sending out the roll call notices. Phew. María (habla conmigo) 14:20, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

re: October Newsletter - Novels Project

Okay, I'll try to come up something by the end of the month. I disagree about including the inactive members for the newsletter, however; wasn't this one of the reasons why we're holding the roll call? If they're inactive, they're inactive. If they want to become active, they know how to add their name to the members list. Also, there are several members who had only a handful of edits or haven't edited in months, and some here were banned as sockpuppets or have retired, etc. It's time to wipe the slate clean. What I thought we would do is remove everything aside from the active members list (both "incumbent" and "inactive") at the end of the month. That way, when someone joins the project, we can add their name to the list of newsletter receivers. It's confusing to have them do so, and they most probably won't know they have to, even with that helpful note on the members page. I can keep an eye on the members list and do the upkeep. What do you think? María (habla conmigo) 14:19, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I hope this isn't too late, but here's a little blurb I've managed to scrape together for the next newsletter:
Yllosubmarine (talk · contribs) has been a member of the Novels WikiProject for nearly two years, and a coordinator since May. Aside from her work outside the project (including four FAs and six GAs in various areas), she has been active in the Project's Assessment and Peer Review departments. She hopes to continue in these roles as well as help encourage more activity and community research within the Project. With the upcoming coordinator election, she hopes that others will volunteer to become more active in their roles as Project members so that we can continue to provide quality articles to the readers of this encyclopedia.
María (habla conmigo) 13:06, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

You might like to pick up the news of a new task force, "Twilight". :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:56, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

The newsletter looks great! I updated the election page, but you should take a look just to make sure everything is running okay. I'm not sure of the timing/duration of the election/voting process, so let me know what you think about that. Also, do you plan on running? María (habla conmigo) 12:23, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject novels newsletter subscription list

Hi Boylo. Isn't the decommissioning of the subscriber list a bit abrupt? Many people on the list who are not also on the project members list will not receive the next newsletter and, given the spotty production of late, may not even notice. Perhaps you could send the newsletter to a superset of the two lists for the next couple of issues and include a note asking people to sign up as members if they don't want to miss out on future issues. Just a thought. --Regents Park (sniff out my socks) 02:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

No worries. I like to read the newsletter but haven't become a member because I don't plan on doing anything. Hopefully, there aren't too many people like me out there. Will become a member now. --Regents Park (sniff out my socks) 13:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello! I made a first translation of the Steppenwolf image. Please tell me, where to put/upload the image. Btw: It would be better to make a svg/vector graphic, for improved readability. Regards, — Tirk· “…” 08:40, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello! I finally uploaded the images to Wikimedia Commons. The file names are "Steppenwolf.svg" and "Steppenwolf en.JPG". I don't know how to crop the svg-file, but that should be easily done by someone who knows the trick. Kind regards, — Tirk· “…” 08:46, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Image location

No strong opinions. However "left" near or with the Major characters section would seem about right. Or if not left then move some of the other images to the left to balance things. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Focus

Hi, I have been around this project for quite some time now. Bit of a hiatus earlier this year, but back now just contributing. The Novels WikiProject wasn't started by me but my interest in the subject initially attracted me to what was here. It has develop substantially in the last few years and now takes in all forms of Narrative Prose Fiction within its scope. We are about the content not the format of the prose so WP:Books differs a little in that an implied format is entailed; also they can also focus more clearly on non-fiction. WP:Literature are the "new boys on the block" and are a little more focused on the "quality" aspects of literature, and again they have less emphasis on pure fiction and the prose aspect. Our biggest problem is to maintain a certain focus of interest across such a broad subject area and we need workers who can develop task forces, teams for assessment, teams for peer review and so much more. "So much to do, so little time, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late" to misquote from Alice in Wonderland.

Will that do the job! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:10, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Knowsley Road photographs

The first play-off game at Knowsley Road could be the last game to be played there. It's looking likely that not that many more games will be played at Knowsley Road, Belle Vue, The Willows or Wheldon Road and we have very few free-to-use images of them (although the ones we have, particularly of Wheldon Road are very good). I wouldn't like to see our material on these historic grounds go the same way as the very limited material we have for the historic Boulevard Ground, Thrum Hall or the Parkside Ground. If you will be at the next play-off game at Knowsely Road or if you are able to get any pictures of these grounds I would be very gratefull if you could upload them to commons. I can sort out the categories and such if you don't have any time. Alternatively if you know of anyone who could it would be much appreciated. I am unlikely to go to any away games next season because of my current circumstances so will not be able to contribute towards this, although I shall endevour to get some great images at home games (I've a load of the CC final to upload but there sat it a very long backlog).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:44, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
