Hello.

You told me that i vandilized a page? which page was it beacause i actually havent. Please == excuse me ==

It was the removal of section headings on Crusade. I don't think it was in bad faith, so I'm removing the warning. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 17:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Posting speeches

[edit]

Hey, I figured I ought to write the entire speech made by Victor Hugo on Voltaire. It wouldn't break any copyright infringements. The speech was held in 1878. Is this allowed? Where can I read about all Wiki policy on these issues? Thanks!

--Anittas 13:20, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

It doesn't sound like there is a copyright issue as that would be in the public domain, however the question is whether posting a whole speech is encyclopedic. It sounds more like material for Wikisource. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 13:45, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism/3RR

[edit]

Please report 3RR violations at the administrator's noticeboard 3rr page, as is specificed at the vandalism in progress page. Thanks. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 13:59, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bmicomp, thanks, I had reported this at the 3RR page a few days ago and got no response [1]. This has gotten to be a more severe problem since and also extended to other articles and other actions than 3RR, that's why I think it's appropriate to list under vandalism. At least, I hope it increases tha likelyhood it will be dealt with. P.S. Thanks for reporting the vandal's new IP on 3RR. ObsidianOrder 14:05, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I was referring to the new IP, 198.65.167.221 (talkcontribs). Thanks. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 14:31, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bmicomp — I'm letting you know that I've unashamedly stolen your idea of a personal RFC page. I couldn't really steal your excellent signature, though, so I'm letting you keep that. — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 10:21, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh no, feel free to steal! I like that somebody else (you) is/are using the idea. --- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 12:58, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Puppetering

[edit]

I would appreciate it if in the future I was not accused of enlisting sock puppets when in fact nothing of this nature has occurred. I respect wikipedia and value the VfD process, so I would appreciate more discretion or evidence before accusations are thrown around. Thank you - Thirty3 23:20, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You and other users mysteriously both misspelled User as Oser. Sorry, let me explain myself. I usually assume that the user who wrote the article is most likely the sockpuppet. Seeing similarities between your and some of the other votes reinforced this belief that you were sockpuppeting. I appologize for coming off as acusatory though, that wasn't my reason for the comment. Regardless of whether or not you are sockpuppeting, seeing that this is a neologism, this will almost certainly be deleted. If you are or know of anybody who is sock/meatpuppeting, please let them know that this is a futile attempt to stuff the ballot box. Admins who close out the VfD discussion see through this sort of thing. Not to mention, VfD is not decided by merely how many people vote one way or the other. Thanks. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 23:35, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I never actually misspelled the word, and I don't really care if the page goes away. I can understand the skepticism and the likelihood of creators being the people to gather a gaggle of false support, but I still don't think it's appropriate to accuse anyone of it without more than coincidental (and, AFAIK, non-existent) misspellings. My user page explains that I created the article after some research into wikipedia policies, but before I discovered that neologisms typically violate the no original research tenet. Thirty3 23:49, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I never acuse people on here, and this was not a good time to start. I appologized before, but I'm appologizing again, this time not using accusatory language in the process. I realize now I've made a mistake, another user changed your comment afterwards. That doesn't matter, shouldn't have accused you in the first place. Sorry for biting. =/. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 23:55, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

VfD

[edit]

Greetings! I'm afraid that we've had a bit of an edit conflict over the unfortunately named Cock pushup article. I had speedied it a matter of seconds before you went to all the trouble of making a nice VfD entry for it, thereby re-creating it. I do appreciate the sentiment, though, so much so that I speedied it again. It was a ridiculous article, but if you don't think it should have been deleted so precipitously, I'll understand. Regards, Fire Star 05:41, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No no, I saw your comment on the VfD a few minutes ago. That's fine. I didn't realize you deleted it, and it was an unintentional recreation. Part of a [bug in mediawiki http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232] that doesn't tell you of edit conflicts with deleted articles. I really wanted to speedy that myself anywho... -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 05:52, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Note I am a bit tipsy, excuse the lack of grammar/sense in the above statement -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 05:52, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Hi, I'm involved in a situation and I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I am involved in a small content dispute over Congressional Black Caucus with User:Adam Carr. I have commented on the article's talk page that I thought it wasnt NPOV (i wasnt alone either), because the last two paragraphs are just, in my opinion, "blind priase" for the CBC and shameless promotion. User:Adam Carr will not even respond to my comments and whenever I try to removed the quotes in question, he reverts it. Recently I have tried adding the {{NPOV}} and leaving his paragraphs but he removed that too without discussion.

I am asking you because you seem to have a good grasp of how things work around here and it would be nice to have a trustworthy, non-involved person look at the situation.

Thanks in advance, --Gpyoung talk 15:52, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I took a look at it. It looks like he's responded to your message now. Also, I'd recommend leaving messages to a specific user on their user talk page, as they are notified of it the next time they visit a page on wikipedia. As far as the quote though, I took a look at it and had another user look at it too. The quote isn't very neutral, but I don't think it needs to be. If you were to say "The black caucus is a fantastic group" that is one thing, but if you say "Senator John Doe has said 'The black caucus is a postive... blah blah blah'" it is kind of a different story, because you're not representing it as fact. However, I don't think he should be removing the NPOV tag without discussing it. Also, try to add edit summaries so other users know what you're doing. Hope this helps. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 16:16, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking at that for me. If you have noticed, I have a bad habit of always forgetting edit summaries-lol but ill work on that. My objection to the quotes is that they are unnecessary. Oh course senators who are members of the CBC are going to say loads of nice things about it, but that is, by definition self promition and I dont think Wikipedia should be about that. I have been looking for a replacment quote from a non-member but have been having troulble. Thanks though, --Gpyoung talk 16:56, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Errh... what is this all about? Lupo 10:53, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

This is a thread. If you want to stay synchronised, don't substitute it. Some of us are considering forming a wikiproject (or something) to coordinate on scripts for the Monobook skin. Ironically, almost of all of it will be implemented in JS, not CSS. I thought you might be a knowledgable person when it comes to this stuff. Alphax τεχ 13:58, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Guys, just posting a link to here on people's talk pages is good enough to attract interested parties. Transcluding this screws up section editing on all affected talk pages. And I don't think I'll get the new message alert anyway if this is transcluded. Lupo 14:07, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
Help us decide a name then! Alphax τεχ 15:07, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As to coordinating scripts for the Monobook skin: what's the objective? A library of plug-in JavaScript snippets? A manual for the CSS used? Lupo 14:07, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, a library of plugins. Alphax τεχ 15:07, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I can try to help with css more than js btw as I'm much better than that (but still not that good). If anyone needs a person to double check stuff I also have a bit o' time on me hands =) This project looks cool though. Sasquatch 19:42, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

What is the link to the monobook project? - Ta bu shi da yu 00:12, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't one yet, we need a name and to decide where it should be located (on WP:, meta:, commons:)... Alphax τεχ 04:04, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be in the Wikipedia namespace. Good idea, btw. - Ta bu shi da yu 04:18, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Though I know very little about JS and how it works and most of the stuff on my monobook.js is just copied and pasted I'd be willing to join since I've been meaning to learn javascript and it would be a good way to put real use to it. I also think it should be on the WP: namespace btw. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 15:53, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

You readded a link which I removed in Calorad. I think it's pretty clear that it is an advertisement/spam, so I'm reremoving it. If you have any questions or issues with this this, I encourage you to respond here or on my talk page. Thanks.

Despite the spamtastic nature of the page and blatant advertising, it does seem to contain some redeeming value that can be incorporated into the article, but I won't revert again. --Merovingian (t) (c) 07:50, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
Well, they seem to have completely changed the page in the last few minutes. Now it is an introduction to the product and a bunch of unformatted testimonials. Before it was one testimonial (more like an infomercial), with buttons/links for buying the product, along with a bunch of pictures of the website creator on the righthand side of the page. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 08:00, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Until they can sort out their own website, I'll leave it out of the article. --Merovingian (t) (c) 08:16, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

I looked around a bit but was not able to find any sources online. You've mentioned that this is a secretive unit, and I think this secretive nature would preclude you from finding information about it. It may very well be a real unit, but due to its unverifiabile nature, please refrain from adding articles about it, or refering to it in other articles. Thank you for reverting the anon's recent deletions of material on Katharine Hepburn. He has had some valuable suggestions for fixing some pieces of material that were incorrect, but he also insists on deleting factual material (like quotes, information on the A. Scott Berg book, and information on The Aviator, all of which are relevant and properly written). He's engaged me a tiny bit on the talk page (quite uncivilly I might add), but once I requested sourcing for the changes he was seeking, he stopped talking and started reverting again. Until he comes to talk, and sources his changes (and stops deleting things wholesale), I'm pretty much going to consider him a vandal. So thanks very much for your help. · Katefan0(scribble) 22:17, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

You labeled Christian Broadcasting Network a joke religion (although it itself is not even a religion, it is a broadcasting network). You also changed a category of Church of the SubGenius to a category of a personal comment. And then you vandalized the Israel page. If you actually wish to perform good faith editing, please see Wikipedia:Welcome. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 07:36, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Church of the Subgenius is NOT a joke religion, although it does contain parody elements. As far as my labeling Christian Broadcasting Network a joke religion.... that WAS a joke... for which i apologize.

--

If you do not agree with the 'joke religion' category you may bring it up on the SubGenius talk page or remove the category altogether. However, please do not insert commentary (or anything else that isn't a valid category name) into the category tag. Thanks! Thatdog 07:42, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

as per your suggestion, i have brought it up on the 'talk' page, and changed the category tags to appropriate tags for our faith. I hope you would respect the sanctity of our faith by not altering it to the pejorative joke religion category without approval from a substantial number of church members, we may be sacrilegious and cynical but we are a valid faith as the following post in alt.slack demonstrates quite conclusively.

open proxies

[edit]

I've notice you have been reverting vandalism by vandals that are using open proxies. If you ever feel like checking for open proxies, you may want to try this site. It's really easy if you are using firefox, you can setup a keyword for http://www.completewhois.com/cgi-bin/rbl_lookup.cgi?query=%s, so when you type they keyword then the ip address e.g. 'ip x.x.x.x' (x.x.x.x being the ip address) it will show you those listings. Just a thought/suggestion. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 00:55, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks: I didn't know how to check on that. I appreciate the note. Joyous (talk) 00:57, August 27, 2005 (UTC)
No problem. One thing, if you do use that page to check for proxies, make sure to check the text of the red listings when they're there. It'll usually say "Simple http... Open proxy" or something of the sort when it's a proxy. Sometimes they have red listings just because they are dynamic ip addresses (like comcast ips, for example), and when that is the case it will say so next to the listing on that page. In other words, be careful not to assume it is a proxy just because it has red listings. I hope this rambling explanation makes sense. =) -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 01:06, 27 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
