Former Username: Bijouworld

[edit]

I created my former (and first) user account “Bijourworld” to contribute positively to the information available on Wikipedia concerning gay pornographic and BDSM films. Despite my good intentions, my former account name became a problem because it strongly—and erroneously—suggested a conflict of interest.

I chose the name “Bijouworld” because I wanted to create a page about Steven Toushin, owner of The Bijou Theater (the oldest gay sex club in the United States) and Bijou Video. I thought the name was cute and I meant to pay homage to the man. However, the name caused a huge amount of confusion and a couple editors accused me of promoting Steven Toushin. As explained in my appeal to change usernames, I am not Steven Toushin and I am not promoting his businesses. Everyone needs a starting point, and Steven Toushin was mine.

The Wiki: Blocking policy page reminds us that “Everyone was new once, and most of us made mistakes.” Please know that I am open to constructive criticism and guidance. It is my sincere hope to contribute positively to the information available on Wikipedia concerning gay pornographic and BDSM films. Bijou World (talk) 21:37, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image permission problem with Image:1974 mugshot of Steven Toushin.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:1974 mugshot of Steven Toushin.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk) 17:22, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mugshots are only PD in a limited set of conditions - forwarding permission would be the best way to proceed. Thanks, — neuro(talk) 19:15, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added an {{OTRS pending}} tag for you, just add the ticket number when you have it (or an OTRS volunteer will do it for you). Thanks, — neuro(talk) 03:39, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chris! OrphanBot removed the image [File:1974 mugshot of Steven Toushin.jpg] from the Steven Toushin page. I suspect that too many days had passed from the time I posted the photo and still no permissions email was received. Do you think that I should follow up and make sure that the email was sent? Let me know what you think. Thank you!!De Bergerac (talk) 20:34, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Best plan is probably to come onto #wikimedia-otrs connect and explain your situation, that should clear it up quickly. :) — neuro(talk)(review) 20:34, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

COI

[edit]

You know, claims that yo don't have a conflict of interest fall flat when you upload an image of the person you said you were not and were not working for but then placed a license on it saying that the owner gave permission. That just doesn't fly. DreamGuy (talk) 16:42, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DreamGuy: I just saw that you put the COI tag back on the Steven Toushin page. It is my understanding that Steven Toushin sent an email to Wikipedia stating that he gives his permission for a GFDL license so that the Steven Toushin Wiki page can show a photo of him. OrphanBot removed the photo before you posted the COI tag, so I assume that Wiki has not read (or received) an email from Steven Toushin. I plan to follow up to see if I can close the gap because I think the photo adds a lot to the page. In any event, can you please remove the COI tag? If not, can we please discuss the issue on the page's discussion page? You think a COI exists and I maintain that there is no COI. We may want to seek a third party opinion. Thank you! De Bergerac (talk) 16:23, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DreamGuy: I hoped that we could talk about this on the Steven Toushin discussion page because I'm not sure why you think a COI exists. I have submitted the issue to Wikipedia:Third opinion. Let's see what others have to say. Thank you! De Bergerac (talk) 20:09, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I saw this edit on my watchlist and had to revert it, because if you read the top of the page you'll notice that you should sign with five tildes [~~~~~] to just insert the date and time, to maintain neutrality. Don't feel bad about it, I'm sure you're not the first to fall foul of this policy. Thank you, Queenie 20:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes, I totally missed that! I read the directions to mean that we were supposed to sign our names; I didn't know the difference between 4 vs. 5 tildes. Thank you for reverting it! De Bergerac (talk) 20:29, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
