Great Work!

[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for the great job you did on the SS Morro Castle page. I was hoping someone knowledgeable would come along and give that page the attention it needed. Excellent work. I put together a page on the SS Noronic myself, but there are still a lot of maritime disasters that need attention, so I'm glad to know you're around. And hey, if you ever feel like starting a page on the SS Yarmouth Castle fire, go for it! I've been meaning to start that page myself, but just haven't found the time. Thanks again for your valuable contribution. -- Jagvar Apr 7, 2005

More good work

[edit]

I want just wanted to thank you for getting the information about Titanic's rudder rewritten and corrected. It was the last part of the RMS Titanic aritcle that I felt was still questionable. Getting the technicalities down was beyond my ability. Thanks again and keep up the good work. MechBrowman 04:00, Apr 7, 2005 (UTC)

Illinois community college system

[edit]

Bart, I noticed that you work at Triton College and did the article on that college. Would you mind taking a look at my new article Illinois community college system and see if it sounds right to you? DS1953 06:35, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BartBenjamin, could you put the copyright information for Image:Californian.jpg and Image:Carpathia.jpg?

Gettysburg Address

[edit]

I made some "peer review" suggestions. Hope they're helpful. Kaisershatner 18:35, 18 October 2005 (UTC) Thanks for cleaning up this page and replacing my HTML with Wiki. It looks and reads much better with fewer line spaces. Bart 00:18, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC) You're welcome. It's good to keep articles in a roughly common style and using the Wiki markup instead of raw HTML helps to do that. Hal Jespersen 00:30, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I made some copyedits/structural changes. Hope you like them. Also, can you provide a source for the "Wills invited Lincoln as an afterthought" statement? That's fascinating and readers should know where that comes from. Kaisershatner 19:39, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your spelling correction of "battle-field" because that is how Lincoln spelled it. I recall seeing this specifically referenced in a discussion of how the English language and spelling evolves over time. I, unfortunately, do not own an original manuscript of the Gettysburg Address to verify this, though the fact that it was originally transcribed with the hyphen would tend to back my sometimes faulty memory. The modern spelling is used in the text of the article, of course, but Lincoln's spelling should be used in the transcription of the document itself. Thanks. -- Kbh3rd 04:33, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I left a note at Talk:Gettysburg Address regarding how to archive old talk categories. No big deal, but just FYI. The article is looking better and better - we should aim for WP:FAC soon. Kaisershatner 16:23, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your note. The article is really getting better. We need to refer to WP:FAC and the guidelines for FA's. There are lots of details that count, like making sure the references are properly formatted. I would recommend looking at some of the current FA candidates to see what kind of vetting they go through and to see if we can head off some of the easy ones. I'll look for more sources we could potentially include to give some different viewpoints. I'm glad you drew my attention to this article - it's a great subject and you've done a nice job with it. Kaisershatner 19:38, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OMG you're going to love what I just found in the public domain. Kaisershatner 19:45, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hey - I saw your recent edit so I know you're around. I think it's time to resubmit to Peer review, and hopefully make a final push toward FA status. (see my notes at Talk:Gettysburg Address). You agree? Kaisershatner 19:01, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hello - tomorrow will be 1 week of Peer review and there haven't been new comments since the references were fixed. As noted on Talk, I've already run it against WP:FAC and I think we look good. Want to do the honors of nominating it, or shall I? Kaisershatner 18:27, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hooray, we're looking good, and happy holidays to you too. Re: your questions, I have to admit I've been wondering the same thing. I'll poke around the wikifaqs a bit, but basically the answer isn't clear to me either! FYI once we do get FA status, I have in mind as our next step to request to be the front page article on either Presidents' Day or Lincoln's Birthday or something coming up soon, rather than waiting around for next November. Best, Kaisershatner 18:07, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
CONGRATS, and happy new year. As of this edit:[1] GA was removed from FAC and Talk:Gettysburg Address now indicates it is a Featured Article! Update your user page. I'm going to see if we can get GA onto the Main Page, as I noted above. It was really fun working on this with you - I learned a tremendous amount about a fascinating subject - one of the major reasons I enjoy using the wikipedia. Hope to see you around - Kaisershatner 14:04, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:VtransitsJ.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Thanks for uploading Image:Occultation.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Re: Occultation.jpg

[edit]

I have clarified the copyright information for this photograph, per your request. Please note that this is a shared image file from the Wikimedia Commons website.

I am not particularly pleased that a) you deleted the picture the same day that you issued a warning thereby giving me virtually no time to address the issue, b) a copyright notice "self|cc-by-sa-2.5" had existed on that page since December 13th, so I don't understand why "the copyright status was unclear," and c) it should have also been clear from reading my caption that this photograph taken by the same person who posted it -- namely me, User:BartBenjamin.

I am still rather new to Wikipedia and therefore do not always know the best designation that various images should carry. Perhaps the following designation that I have changed it to will more meet with your approval than the previous designation. Bart 01:45, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What happened is a bit complicated: It looks like the image existed on both Wikipedia and Commons. The Wikipedia version didn't have any source information, and was tagged as such. The Commons version was tagged as {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}}, and indicated the source. Because of the way the Wikipedia software works, the image shown was the copy from the English Wikipedia, while the description was a combination of the two, indicating that the image was unsourced, but under the cc-by-sa license (not that unusual, people often upload images and indicate a free license, but don't give enough information to verify it).
At this point, OrphanBot, a program I wrote to try to clean up the mess of unsourced images, came along and spotted the {{nosource}} tag on the Wikipedia copy of the image. Since it thought the image had no source information, it removed it from Occultation. Shortly afterwards, User:Nv8200p deleted the Wikipedia copy of the image, since it had been tagged as {{nosource}} for over a week. The copy of the image on Commons appears to be just fine. --Carnildo 05:04, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Bart, hope all's well. Trolling WP:FAC I noticed the (atrocious) United States Bill of Rights, and have launched into a major rewrite. Given the similarity of the subject to our previously successful collaboration, I thought you might want to take a look, and would welcome your contributions. Obviously, it's going to be much broader than the good old GA was, but that means more help will be required. All the best, Kaisershatner 16:08, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bart, I'm trying to get this one over the goal line: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates#United States Bill of Rights. I'm just asking that in the event the article meets criteria you would vote to support - if you don't think it's ready, then vote against, I won't take it personally. Hello there, I was looking at the Recent Changes page and noticed your alert on the Admin. page on vandalism.

While I'm not an admin, I did want to let you know that if you do encounter an anonymous user who is vandalising articles, but who lacks a talk page, you are welcome to start a talk page for that user by clicking on the "discussion" tab and typing out your warning. I hope this helps. --Tachikoma 02:25, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Cachet.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cachet.jpg. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. [edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Morro Castle 1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Proposed deletion of Cernan (disambiguation)

[edit]

The article Cernan (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:PTM and WP:3DABS

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Nevéselbert 18:52, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gettysburg Address Featured article review

[edit]

I have nominated Gettysburg Address for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:09, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:CESC planetarium.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, redundant to File:Cernan Earth and Space Center.jpg.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 07:21, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
