Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Bianca Gjomarkaj. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Guy (help!) 10:12, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JzG, I appreciate your attention to this page and others which I edited. I would like to explain to you that the site gjonmarkagjoni.com is a factual, historical and important site created by me, the daughter of Ndue Gjomarkaj (listed on the site), not a 'useless' page at all. As I am sure you are aware, Albania was under a brutal communist dictatorial regime for almost 50 years. I will not go into the whole story, you can read it on my website. However, to that end, many, many, many articles, books, etc. have been written, specifically regarding my family, which are factually incorrect. Some of these inaccuracies come from the book written by Dr. Robert Elsie. I was reprimanded by another user for changing/removing a quote from the Dr.'s book and have since written him to inform him that I have an email directly from Dr. Elsie, prior to his death in 2017, which states that the information he printed was 'probably inaccurate'. But beyond that, I am trying to put out factual, historical information regarding my family, as any other descendant with an interest to correct historical inaccuracies would. I am not a paid blogger, nor are receiving any funds from the website. It is my own creation and my own personal journey to ensure that the facts about my family, which in Albania was and is a very important one, are accurate. Most of the writings on Wikipedia coming from 'sources' on the facts about my family are derived from the old 'communist archives' in Tirana and are propaganda. On the particular page, Mirdita, the 'fact' listed was that my uncle's brother-in-law murdered him, that is totally fabricated and party propaganda of the time, and that is why I am adamant about correcting it, referencing the Mirdita page. If trying to correct historical inaccuracies on publications by someone with first hand knowledge is a conflict of interest so be it. You can choose to leave my website as a spam, I don't agree, but there are many sites out there which deserve that status more than mine. Bianca Gjomarkaj (talk) 15:10, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bianca Gjomarkaj, it's your website. You are allowed to propose links on the Talk pages, but not to include them yourself. Guy (help!) 15:13, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Bianca Gjomarkaj
