ZippCast

[edit]

Hi 333-blue,

Could you please provide further explanation/direction regarding the sources not being reliable? I have consulted Wikipedia chat and was under the impression the added sources would do the trick in order to get this approved. I have added the necessary in line sources and found a handful of additional sources from reputable media sources, newspapers, and so on in support of the content. Any help or a re-review of the page would be greatly appreciated!

Please re-review. Every source but one is a major media outlet, yet the feedback indicates I don't have reliable sources. I sought clarification in the Wikipedia chat, and they said the most reliable sources are considered to be major media outlets. So I don't know what other sources I would use that would be considered more reliable/objective.

2. Are there any other things I should fix on my article before re-submitting it again? If so, would you please tell them to me?

I was only trying to help Wikipedia. I added an entry for a program that clearly should be included in Wikipedia as it's been responsible for a number of major feature films and popular scenes in major movies. I have no connection to the Dragonframe software and really have no allegiance to it (have never used it) nor to Wikipedia. I spent at least an hour adding a page that I searched for in Wikipedia but couldn't find, so that future uses would be able to get a summary of software that's responsible for some great movies, shorts, and TV shows. But I'm not going to drop everything in my life just to make sure that a page about a commercial software product I have nothing to do with is completely perfect according to the Wikipedia overseers. If you guys want to tweak it, feel free. This is a page that clearly deserves to be there. Movies like ParaNorman and Frankenweenie are mainstream American (and global) culture, and yet the software responsible for them is not on Wikipedia (not even a stub) because you guys want a perfect page rather than just a helpful one. Here's a page for you. The perfect is the enemy of the good. If you'd rather this content not be there, it really doesn't make much difference to me. Next time I won't waste my time trying to be a good Wikipedia citizen. If this page was there, then others might edit it. But you've scared off at least two people already, and probably will scare off others, which means good citizens really aren't motivated to try to volunteer their time to help. It's your choice. You can allow something useful and informative to be added (even in incomplete) or you can fall back to being so meticulous in your criticism that you thwart the progress of Wikipedia. Editing Wikipedia is not my full time job, and it's not a full time job for many others. I can donate an hour here and there to be a good citizen, but I can't spent two days editing a full page to your satisfaction. Sorry, guy (or girl). I created the page that would have been useful to me when I was searching for it. Dragonframe is a major piece of software and Wikipedia contains no information about it. It's noteworthy enough that I thought it belonged in the list of applications created with the Qt framework, so I added it to that page (I also added Scribus, the major open source desktop publishing software, and XnView MP, the popular image view, to that list). But that page links to a Dragonframe page on Wikipedia that doesn't exist. So trying to be a good Wikipedia citizen, I actually tried to add a Wikipedia page for Dragonframe that might be accepted. But never again. I'm not wasting my time with this again. Take care. Dan

Hello,

I am one of the administrators for the unpublished "Purdue Department of Agricultural Economics" Wikipedia page. I am sending this request to obtain some clarity on how to improve my Wiki page and to ask some specific questions. What would you suggest I change specifically? This is the second rejection I have received and I'm wondering whether or not the excessive amount of Purdue sources is part of the problem. Also, in your experience with Wikipedia, is it unique or more so uncommon to have articles that are about specific departments within a college published? Is there anything specific that I can do to make my Wiki page more notable or is it possible that it may not be as relevant as a Wiki page that is about the Purdue's College of Agriculture as a whole? Thank you for your time and I look forward to gaining insight.

Best,

Brooklyn Russell

After taking a first stab at this, I went back and included 7 additional sources from reputable punk/hardcore/metal websites (Absolute Punk, Punk News, Lambgoat, and an Allmusic bio page). All references included material not produced by the band or the band's record label, and this added information about album releases, tours, and basic info about the band.

Thank you for taking time to review this.

Hey there! Just wanted to thank you on accepting my article on Sam Pepper (YouTube). I do have a concern on the grading scheme and how it was classified as a stub. Please I want youto clearly state to me what my page is lacking? This page is about a famous Cleric from Ghana, and nothing of this sort has ever written online besides Facebook page and few YouTube videos of him. I'm volunteering my time to create this page, and it's my very firsttime doing it hence I'm a bit lost here. I do have enough source that supports me in writing it however. Anxiously waiting for your consideration and prompt action. Thanks much

In-line citations help the refs clearer, are the Arabic contents supposed to be in-line citations? The page is too messy, I have no idea where the refs are. Even in the "references" section: just too messy. 333-blue 23:06, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

333-Blue,

I am hoping to better understand how I can improved this piece. I included 14 sources - I used member blogs and websites (Microsoft, Princeton.edu, Dell, Cisco etc.) to verify that they were in fact members where ever possible. To show the formation of the organizations 3rd party press (rethink, yahoo News, etc.) to show formation information. This sourcing of information seems similar to other sister and related organizations that have entries in Wikipedia so I would appreciate help here.

Hi, 333-blue. I saw you declining Draft:I Predict a Riot (album). With this edit, in the same minute you left a note on another user's talk page, you said, "nn - Submission is about a topic not yet shown to meet general notability guidelines (be more specific if possible)".

I believe the album is notable because it meets WP:GNG and WP:NALBUMS #1, having been "the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble who created it." I Predict a Riot has received reviews from multiple critics, including AllHipHop, AllMusic, BBC Music, Exclaim!, and HipHopDX, all of which are listed as recommended sources at WP:ALBUM/SOURCE. As far as I know, seeing Wikipedia talk:Notability (music)/Archive 19#Question about WP:NALBUMS, the current consensus is that an album is notable when it meets WP:NALBUMS #1. I don't understand why you declined the submission. Can you explain the reason why you thought it is non-notable? 153.203.16.165 (talk) 20:57, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I saw your comment at the draft. You said: "It looks like that refs are from music websites." Sure, it can be said that some of them are music websites. But I still don't understand why you declined the submission. Do you think the music websites are not reliable sources? If you oppose WP:GNG, WP:NALBUMS, and/or WP:ALBUM/SOURCE, what makes you to do so? Is the current consensus wrong?

I am trying my best to be specific about why I think the album is notable at the comment above because you instructed me to "be more specific if possible". Now, I would like you to answer my questions. 153.229.36.35 (talk) 00:03, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear IP user, the article looks good to me and is certainly well sourced, including to the BBC. So I have sent it to article space at I Predict a Riot (album). Hi User:333-blue, been to the Wiki Live Help center to request support for my article for creation you declined and some editors offered to help they said, they've cleared the 'useless PR sources' aswell as 'removed some points that have no citation' to assert notability.

However, have resubmitted after they made changes on the article "30hrs ago" and I'll appreciate if you could help me review again.

However, this article has been drafted with the highest degree of caution, i think it has the potentials to grow if you could allow it about 3 - 6 months. Thanks!

My name is Jacqueline and I am the author of the proposed article for Wikipedia on “Michael A. Perelman, PhD”. I am writing to discuss why the draft of the article was initially rejected so that I may better understand what I must do to edit and improve it. Dr. Perelman is an alumni of my own clinical psychology program at Columbia University where I am completing my second year of graduate study. I first learned of Dr. Perelman’s work at Columbia. Recognizing him to be one of our most distinguished graduates I was shocked to find no entry when I attempted to learn more about his work online via Wikipedia. That is why I proposed this article, and would like to ask what references must be provided in order to fulfill Wiki’s requirements/what format should they be written in? I cited various sources that I was already able to obtain that illustrate the details of his career and publications (reliable and reputable academic sources like Cornell Vivo official website of Cornell University Medical College, Current Sexual Health Reports where he is the editor-in-chief [1], and the MAP Educational and Research Fund). The MAP Educational site (http://mapedfund.org) was created by Dr. Perelman, once he founded The MAP Educational Fund (http://www.mapedfund.org/mission). That foundation was approved by the United States Department of Internal Revenue as a 501(c)(3) public charity (Item No. 45-3265404, https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/pub78Search). That is hardly the type of “self-published media” that Wikipedia understandably wishes to avoid. I would submit that he falls under the general exception rule as he does meet all the qualifications. He certainly has an exceedingly extensive Curriculum Vitae. I could request a CV from him and forward it to you, if that would help. I am sure he would accommodate such a request if it came from my own Columbia faculty supervisor as a co-signatory. Additionally, as all are in the public domain, I can also send PDFs of the actual publications. However, that may be superfluous as he has over 200, and 18 are only available as hardcover books. At your request I could also contact Dr. Perelman and get copies/images of the awards and certificates he has been honored with, if required to verify that information. That said, it would be my preference to not disturb this very prolific and distinguished person. Please let me know how to proceed so that I may re-draft the article and re-submit it successfully. Thank you! Regards, Jmv2170 (talk) 19:11, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Jacqueline[reply]

I'm not sure I understand. There are hundreds of references to Exotics at Redmond Town Center via any web search. We've spent eight years building this event and I stuck with just the key points and nothing else. Everything I said was completely accurate and written about in dozens of forums, articles, etc., and yet it was rejected. Which of the references would work? If you could kindly do a Google search, under Exotics at Redmond Town Center or E@RTC or Exotics@RTC, any of those will work, or under my name Tom Nault even. Is it that I wrote the article and not a third party?

Thanks for your feed back. Can you pin point the part where my article does need more reference? Some of the plays, I do have more that one review, infortunately, i only have clippings, some if which do not specify the publication. So i have tried to be thorough and accurate. I also have a list of more plays, but gave avoided adding these do to proven resources.

There are plenty of photos, but again i cant use them until i address the copyright. I have contacted the Theatres for archived material. So far, most only have paper archives and not much online. Not too much is written about South African Theatre in the 1960s-1970s other than what I have found.

Is there anything more I can do to improve this to get it online? Im hoping once online, others will contribute. FrazeFento (talk) 06:52, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, User:333-blue,

Thanks for your review of our submission for Luba Lukova. This article has twice been denied on the grounds of notability with a suggestion for more information from reliable sources, but I'm not sure how the current references are not meeting that standard. While there are links to primary sources (intended to document an exhibition record), four of the references are from sections or chapters on the artist in graphic design textbooks and reference works, published by known, respected presses in communication arts, and others are from academic and/or professional graphic design journals (Print, Novum, Designer, etc.). Could you clarify what else would needed to establish Lukova's notability?

Question about Wikipedia "Edit" tab/feature

[edit]

Hi 333-blue,

I notice I am unable to edit entries and AfC submissions using the Edit tab. This seems to have happened just four days ago --- before that, there appeared an "edit" tab at the top right side of my screen, to make edits easy. Now it is gone! Instead, I only see an "Edit source" tab, which I can use to make edits but is much more cumbersome and difficult than using the easy editor "Edit" tab feature.

Have you ever encountered this problem when editing? If so, any advice/suggestions on what to do?

We've provided multiple reliable references and his successor (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Pacifique_Issoïbeka) has the same accomplishement .. even less but his page is published. Also, we were able to have this article published in french(https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigobert_Roger_Andely), this is just the english version of the french one. Does this mean that wikipedia has a different set of rules per language of the same articles? Please review this one again.

Thank you in advance.

Dear user 01021981aka. I have looked at the article. The subject is a former minister in a national government so there is no question about his notability. I have moved it to the main article space. To answer your question, yes each language Wiki does have different rules, but your article is fine. Happy editing. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 13:12, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PS 333-blue, if you can't recognise the notability of a finance minister in a national government it might be time you gave this game away. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 13:12, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. So my submission was declined for the reason being to not "always uppercase the references", which confused me on why it was declined for this reason. Now, I may be wrong but I took it as if the title of the references should not always be in uppercase letters (maybe "Don't always uppercase the references means something else). The title of the references are copied exactly as they are from the source, so I'm not sure how that would suffice a decline. Nonetheless, I changed the titles to be in proper capitalization. If I took your words the wrong way, please correct me so I can properly fix the article, but, I truly feel that the submission was not meant to be declined for the reason given. Reads- Red links generally are not included in See also sections, nor are they linked to through templates such as Main or Further, since these navigation aids are intended to help readers find existing articles.

An article should never be left with a non-existent (red-linked) category in it. Either the category should be created, or else the nonexistent category link should be removed or changed to a category that does exist.

That's the reason I reverted your edits. Create the category and main article first....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 12:34, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We always leave them in tennis articles and NO ONE notify us, it is not finish, and those articles should be created when the tournament is close enough. You may like to share ideas with the page creator, User:MataW, though. Example: here. 333-blue 12:44, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please Help To Move The Page

[edit]

His official name is Vishal Vashishtha, but the page created Vishal Vashishtha (actor). Please help to move the page into Vishal Vashishtha to easily find his page on wiki. Best Regards Puchicatos (talk) 11:27, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately no, the page has already been protected from creating. 333-blue 11:44, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Puchicatos, you can request the move by following the process described at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:54, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Athomeinkobe, Done! Thank you, hope I did it right Puchicatos (talk) 06:11, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Puchicatos, you unfortunately had a typo in the name (missed the "i" in Vashishtha) so I resubmitted the request. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 06:17, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Athomeinkobe, Ooops ma bad! The page has moved, I really appreciate your help. Best regards Puchicatos (talk) 09:58, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome Puchicatos. As a final note, when trying to ping a user you have to use their actual username. So in my case it has to be {{u|Athomeinkobe}}. Happy editing! AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:13, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I noticed that you declined the article I submitted. Can you help me with any specific suggestions to improve it so it is acceptable? What kind of sources should I look for? Should the article be shortened? Any other tips? Thanks in advance.

I based my article on the article of Oded Galor (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Oded_Galor). I do not see why that one is approved and mine is not? I added some references, but got most information from Joseph Zeira's cv. Since he has been teaching at so many institutions and has published groundbreaking papers, I feel that it is beneficial to both the economic world and his students that this age exists.

Try to add references from news. 333-blue 13:22, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello: An article I submitted was declined, and clear reasons were given for that decision. Basically, my subject lacked significant coverage by reliable and independent sources. However, I subsequently stumbled upon the Wikipedia page for Bearspaw Christian School which has no independent sources at all. Is there a category of Wikipedia articles that does not require independent sources?

Ministik89 (talk) 21:36, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, but sport articles may not need 3rd-party sources. 333-blue 23:01, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ministik89, to answer your question more specifically, the rules regarding sources are more strictly applied to living people as there is more risk of harm to a person by the insertion of falsehoods, as described at WP:BLP. On the other hand, any evidence that a high school exists is enough to satisfy the policy on schools described here. Although no sources are included in the article, a simple google search of the school's name provides plenty of independent evidence of the school's existence. On a side note, sport articles (particularly about athletes) require third-party sources too. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:47, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I am wondering why my Wikipedia article keeps getting declined although I have provided independent sources. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Finnish_American_Chamber_of_Commerce_-_New_York_%28FACC_NY%29

The articles I have on the reference list are all from independent large media outlets from Finland. Kauppalehti is the biggest financial newspaper in Finland and MTV3 is the main news channel of Finland. In addition, the Consulate General of Finland in New York has no relations to FACC NY so the article it has written should also count as independent.

There is another very similar organization in America called AmCham Finland who have gotten their page published without any references: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/AmCham_Finland

And an identical organization SACC New York (the Swedish version of FACC NY) has gotten a page published with only references to its website: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/SACC_New_York

Why is that?

Kindly, Hilla

I am just wondering that why this other page : https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Calvin_Hungarian_Presbyterian_Church_(Ottawa) from Ottawa is better (and accepted) than the Montreal one. (Benarpad (talk) 03:14, 29 April 2016 (UTC))[reply]

this person, a public figure Walshy Fire is in a band with Major Lazer- his band member Jillionaire has exactly the same level of notoriety and he has a Wikipedia that has less citations in it than this one that is up, please recognize that we are basing this listing on the two other listings that this artist is associated with: Major Lazer and Black Chiney- if there is some specific citation that would need to be added in addtion to New York Times, Huffington Post, Miami Herald, I'd love to know what could possibly be added to further vet this person in relation to Jillionaire Wikipedia listing that has almost NO citations at all....and he is in the same band and the same level as Major Lazer member along with Diplo. I have followed the Diplo Wikipedia model to complete this have asked for help and now I am asking you to please reconsider your request for more citations, it doesnt seem to jive with what is happening with the other band members on Wikipedia and Major Lazer-Walshy Fire is actually cited in the Major Lazer Wikipedia as well. Not sure what more I can do on this or eliminate-change but I am open to any and all suggestions as we are anxious to get this up after working on it for so many months.
