Your question
Hi Husky -- thanks for the message. The reason I cleared the list is because the vandalism reports were a day old or more. When someone is vandalizing a page it's easy to want them to face some sort of swift retribution (I've been there myself). But the point of blocking users is not to punish them really, it's just to get them to stop their bad behavior. So once the vandalism has stopped, the issue is basically solved and a block isn't necessary. We have to be careful about blocking IP's also, because potentially anybody could be using them, not only the vandal. Generally IP's are only blocked for short periods of time. The vandalism listings that I erased were old -- meaning, they were no longer actively vandalizing. Generally in that case, no action is taken because the immediate problem (a page or pages being vandalized) is, for the moment, through. But, of course if you see a vandal starting back up again, you are encouraged to report the problem -- providing you have sufficiently warned them on their talk page during that vandalism cycle. Of course, it must be repeated vandalism, not just once or twice, which a user can take care of themselves. I hope this makes sense. Best · Katefan0(scribble) 14:14, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi
Hi Husky. Just to let you know, This is actually Xiphon speaking, but I am logged out because for some reason I can't access my talk page when I'm logged in at the moment. I see you're sending anti-vandalism messages to the IP that I am using, Ipod's or something, please note that I am not vandalising anything, I assume it's someone else on this IP. I'm trying to ask an admin about my talk page issue, so please don't block this IP for the time being. If you could just aknowledge here, not my talk page for obvious reasons, I'd be grateful. Thanks--198.54.202.18 12:51, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hello Xiphon. I suppose you are referring to my comment on User talk:70.24.64.116 . You're completely right, i meant to place the comment on User talk:67.122.197.121 but for some reason it ended up on your IP page User talk:70.24.64.116. Sorry about that, it must have been late :). Oh, and by the way, i can't block you because i'm not an administrator.

Hi, somebody unknown has requested deletion of two photos that you uploaded. Please see Commons:Deletion requests. Thuresson 05:29, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, i know. It's somebody from the Dutch wikipedia. I already had contact with him. The problem is that the disclaimer of regering.nl (the site the pictures came from) is not clear about the status of pictures from it's website.

I am not advertising or spamming or anything else you think is going on. I posted valid links to a valid site that has to do with the topic at hand. This is what the "External Links" section is for. It is to give users other sites that deal with the same topic but expand on that topic or maybe give tutorials or articles on that topic. If you harrass me again you will be the one submitted for a user ban. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.89.208.242 (talk • contribs) .
- Funniest comment I've read all day. How come spammers always refer to spamming as something other people do? --GraemeL (talk) 18:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Mmm.. well thanks anyway for adding a message at the user's page. Husky(talk page) 01:16, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. Speaking for myself, I generally consider contributions less than a paragraph in size, or adding an image or a few words here and there, minor. But that's just me ;-) — Curt Woyte 11:59, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Loveisall promo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Loveisall promo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Non-free use disputed for Image:Anne littlebritain.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Anne littlebritain.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 13:31, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Image change to alife
Hi I was just wondering why you replaced the Creatures image for one about Braitenberg vehicles instead of just adding a second image? I don't see how Braitenberg holds more relevance to the subject (if any at all)? I've started up a section on the talk page if you want to join in. If you feel like chatting live about alife you might want to join a few other people on irc://irc.freenode.net#alife. Thanks. MattOates (Ulti) 08:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Jo_frost.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jo_frost.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 22:30, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Vali myers.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Vali myers.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion of Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg
A tag has been placed on Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your Wikibooks Logo Proposal
I want to ask whether your great Wikibooks logo proposal could be used as the official logo for the Collection Extension. This extension allows users to create their own books (PDF, ODF or printed) from wiki-content. Your logo would really fit well to this extension. The collection will be deployed on the German Wikipedia within the next two weeks. Other Wikimedia sites will follow. He!ko (talk) 13:36, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Update: This feature is now available on the German Wikipedia. I think you logo would nicely decorate this Special:Book page. He!ko (talk) 11:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with File:Take my breath away.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Take my breath away.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 13:39, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

"Removing non-relevant link" on "Challenge-response authentication"
Hi Husky!
FYI, I disagree with your removal of the link from Challenge-response authentication to my external wiki page on algorithms showing how storage of plaintext-equivalents can be avoided with simple C/R schemes. Although I am obviously biased, I find the link highly relevant. Right now, most people implementing or designing trivial C/R schemes do not realize that the problem can be avoided at all. This is reflected even in Internet RFCs - the authors did not realize! I am not aware of a more appropriate Wikipedia article to have this mentioned in, and my understanding is that publishing the algorithms right in Wikipedia (and only in Wikipedia) would be inappropriate - need to refer to an external source. Similarly, making a statement and not backing it up with algorithms would be inappropriate.
Please consider restoring the link, or bring the topic up on the discussion page. I have little doubt that people will find the info relevant.
Thanks,

- I brought the issue up on the talk page for the article: Talk:Challenge-response_authentication#Storage_of_plaintext-equivalents_can_be_avoided_with_simple_C.2FR_schemes. I am still puzzled as to why you found the link "non-relevant"; I included a guess in my comment on the article's talk page, but I'd appreciate a comment from you. Perhaps the info and link need to be re-introduced in a manner more consistent with the rest of the article, and you could help with this (at least by explaining your reasoning).
