Are you an admin?

I have a question concerning the vandalism in Minute to Win It challenges. Are you an admin? If so, I need your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberpower678 (talkcontribs) 00:22, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not an admin, sorry. I may be able to direct you to someone who can help you, though. What do you need? A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 00:24, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've been monitering the Minute to Win It challenge article, and this is not the only case of vandalism that happened. Further more there are people that are removing or adding info w/o evidence. I put in a request for Semi-Protection. I need an admin for that though.cyberpower (talk) 00:30, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I gave a couple of admins a poke...looks like it's been semi-protected now. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 00:37, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much. Yes it is Semi-Protected. I like your username by the way.cyberpower (talk) 01:01, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want to be one? – Quadell (talk) 13:36, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. It's something I've been thinking about, but I don't think I'm ready quite yet. Possibly in a few months I might decide to have a go. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 14:00, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Let me know when you want to give it a whirl. – Quadell (talk) 14:26, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for letting me know. It really must be a mistake. I have checked my other recent edits (also newly created links) -- they seem to be OK. Will be more cautious next time. Cheers! Lamro (talk) 19:16, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if that's the rule about sources, then I guess that's just the way it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.153.165 (talk) 00:03, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, we very much your attempting to improve the article, it's just that in this case we can't use what you've got. Thanks for understanding! A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 00:10, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, someone else had written that bit and I put it back when it had been taken out. Not a big deal though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.153.165 (talk) 23:27, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it was rather unusual, though not the first time I've had threats like that said to me. The account and the edit has been dealt with. =) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:08, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help with speaking English

Hi Fluffy, Thanks for the advice(!) I'm British and so are 60 million other people. I think I know how to spell colour thank you very much x — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.152.244.230 (talk) 18:00, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure you're very good at spelling and English, but the fact remains that it's not appropriate to change spellings on Wikipedia the way you did. As long as you implement British spellings only on British articles (or articles that are written in British English), you should be fine, but if you keep changing them on other articles, you could run into trouble. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 18:06, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fluffernutter; on the edit to the introduction you reverted an assertion that's borne out by the citation that follows, that the subject never served in the army. I think the passage could be re-added and rephrased to meet NPOV. Thanks, 99.0.82.226 (talk) 18:09, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I'm not really involved or willing to get involved with the article at the moment - I just reverted it to the last version I could find from before that epic edit-war started up. Your best option is probably to propose your change on the article's talk page and see if people who watch the article have an opinion about whether to re-insert that material. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 18:12, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not involved there either, but both the article and the talk page appear to be long-term battlegounds, with the article's subject or someone sympathetic persistently removing such information. Since I can't edit the article, I'm just asking that you have another look at the source, and the claim which links to it. Cheers, 99.0.82.226 (talk) 18:15, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A vandal has repeatedly edited the Harold Covington article with false information claiming he was in the Rhodesian Military. The source that cites this says that he was not. The discussion page for this article has been repeatedly vandalized as well.

http://books.google.com/books?id=kbKJU3e59MsC&pg=PA45&dq=Covington++%22Rhodesian+Army%22&hl=en&ei=VRh0TP–DMKB8gbFyqj2CA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Covington%20%20%22Rhodesian%20Army%22&f=false — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk) 18:06, 19 July 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk)

As I said above, the correct thing to do now is to STOP REVERTING EACH OTHER (for those of you who have been) and TALK. On the article's talk page. Not here, and not by undoing each other's edits, but on Talk:Harold Covington and using actual words. Continuing to revert - on the article or on the talk page - will only get you blocked for edit warring. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 18:20, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I've supported the above contention at the article talk page--as it stands the source contradicts current text. But the point here is to double check connections between content and sources before reverting. 99.0.82.226 (talk) 18:23, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried to use the talk page but my posted are deleted from there and the page continues to be changed by someone else. Obviously they don't want to talk about it and only want to have an edit war. I've tried to have other mods lock the article but they havent taken action. It's blatant vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk) 18:26, 19 July 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Is this going to be corrected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk) 18:45, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I've already said, repeatedly, your dispute will not be resolved here. You must engage on the article's talk page. I have neither the power nor the willingness to fix this dispute for you; you have to do it yourself, by discussing with your fellow editors. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 18:48, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't dispute this with a biased editor who only wants to further someone's image instead of provide accurate information. The article is locked anyway. I didn't think that it would take a genius to see that he hasn't served in the Rhodesian military. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk) 18:57, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I already posted this issue in the discussion a few days ago by the way. Instead of a dicussion it was deleted and the article was continually vandalized. What do you suggest I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.11.81 (talk) 19:09, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You should follow the steps outlined at WP:DR. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 19:12, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hi,

My name is Victor Grigas and I'm a Storyteller at the Wikimedia Foundation. We're exploring new ways to explain why Wikipedia is so special and we’ve started a Wikipedia Stories Project, where we’re chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community, especially editors and active contributors in the movement like you. I'll be traveling to Wikimania next month to collect stories for our 2011 Fundraiser. While there I'd love the chance to meet with you and hear your thoughts about Wikipedia. We’ll have a schedule of available times for you to sign up if you’re interested, but right now, we’d like to make the initial contact to gauge your interest. Please let me know by emailing me at vgrigas@wikimedia.org or responding on my talk page.

thank you,

Victor Grigas (talk) 22:34, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hi!

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly! I look forward to speaking with you. We're going to have 45 minute time slots available to us at Wikimania, so scheduling will be key. At your earliest convenience, I'd like to have a chat over the phone or over Skype to go over the topics we will discuss in the interview. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

See you in Haifa!

Victor Grigas

I'm not a huge fan of Skype calls (or phones - both make me nervous!). If it's possible, I'd rather do it through text - google talk or irc, or even just Skype IM would work for me. Any chance of one of those instead? A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 23:07, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey :) anything with a voice chat will work just fine, can we correspond via email? mine is vgrigas@wikimedia.org User:victorgrigas (talk) 14:36, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article promotion

Congratulations!
Thanks for all the work you did in making The Case of the Dean of St Asaph a certified "Good Article"! Your work is much appreciated. (Pictured is William Pitt uncorking a celebratory bottle of invective.)

In the spirit of celebration, you may wish to review one of the Good Article nominees that someone else nominated, as there is currently a backlog, and any help is appreciated. All the best, – Quadell (talk)

Assistance

Hello, Fluffernutter! I have observed that you are a prolific and hard-working Wikipedian! Therefore, I am posting this message on your talk space, because I would like for you to assist me in the cleanup of the article: List of mascots. The page is a mess of non-referenced, and littered with undoubtedly choppy original research. If you have any time on your hands to assist me on this venture, I would gladly appreciate it.

P.S. If you could be kind enough to contact other users about this situation and ask for their contributions, I would utmost appreciate it. Thank You, ~ Jedi94 (talk) 20:33, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Fluffernutter, I have been editing the Chuck Muth page. I was not familiar with the coatrack issue. My intention was not to make the page a coatrack. The content I am including is relavent to Muth's political career. If possible could you explain to me how I can include this information without making it a coatrack. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poseidon246 (talkcontribs) 21:03, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Muth Page Revision

Hello Fluffernutter, I have been editing the Chuck Muth page. The information I've included was not meant to be a coatrack. It is relevant information in Muth's political career. Could you give me some pointers so that it will not be a coatrack? Thanks.

Poseidon246 (talk) 21:06, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not sure if there's a way to add the information you want to add without it being a coatrack. Basically, the Muth article is supposed to be about Muth. The stuff you're adding is about another person, who has some vague link to Muth but isn't Muth, and you're adding a whole paragraph about how that other person is bad and committed crimes, etc. This has nothing to do with Muth unless Muth was involved in the crimes. The only connection to Muth at all in the text you're adding is that Muth supposedly "took up the cause" of this other guy. What does that mean? What bearing does it have on Muth and his career? Does it have anything to do with his political career? Is it really a notable event in the overarching career of Muth, or is it just a matter of his name having been linked with someone who got in trouble? Are you adding it because you think the event is important to Muth's story, from a neutral perspective, or because you think Muth should be punished in some form for "taking up the cause" of someone who committed illegal acts?
Basically, what you're adding is, in its current form, never going to be ok to put in the Muth article. It's possible that, with some extensive re-working, you could come up with something that explains why the information is relevant to Muth and add a sentence about the situation, but right now there's nothing in what you added that seems to show that the information is relevant to Muth. Thanks for your support and help!

Thanks, Fluffernutter for your support in dealing with administrative issues, and helping me come up to speed as a member of the community. I added a discussion section to WT:ALBUM and will submit to the judgement of the community before adding any External links to music source material.

Ah, good to see your unblock came through! Sorry for the rough start you had. I'll be keeping an eye on the ALBUM discussion to see how things work out :) A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 01:24, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
