The history of Argentina from 2023 began with the election of Javier Milei, candidate for the coalition La Libertad Avanza in the second round of the 2023 Argentine general election, on November 19. For the first time in the electoral history of Argentina, since the establishment of secret ballots in 1912, that the winning political force did not include the Radical Civic Union nor the Partido Justicialista, the latter also known as the Peronist Party. Milei so defeated Peronism and its successor Kirchnerism, as well as the radical Macrism by invoking Liberalism, libertarianism, anarcho-capitalism, minarquism whose priniple proposal was the dolarization, the elimination of the Central Bank of Argentina and an economic policy of privatization and a massivey reduction in public spending.[1] Milei became the first self-defined libertarian and anarcho-capitalist head of state in human history[2] and the Libertarian Party (founded in 2018) became the firsto libertarian political party to gain power in a country. After the first round, the second round on Novemeber 19, 2023, Milei made a deal with the ex-President, Mauricio Macri, announcing that various Marcism supporters would be given important jobs within Milei's government.[3] With the formation of Milei's first cabinet, Patricia Bullrich and Luis Petri, who had been candidates for President and Vice-President for Juntos por el Cambio (macrismo) were given cabinet positions.
