User:Paulproteus/List of puns that took Asheesh more than a year to get
Appearance
In the future, I will explain the actual stories.
- Ithaca is Gorges. <=> gorgeous
- >10y I think
- Legally Blonde. <=> blind
- 2001 through 2014
- Reddit <=> Read it
- >3y I think
- OpenHatch visual pun of the "hatching" as the background tiled image
- I think this took me about 13 months
- Etsy <=> etc.
- Not actually intentionally a pun, according to Wikipedia article, but maybe; it's at least a possible wordplay.
- Sunlight Labs' "billy"
- is... about bills. Ouch. >1yr at least.
- Delta (the airline) is for D, like in the NATO alphabet
- Don't Let's Start spells out "DON'T"
- >10y
- AirBnB
- Airbed and Breakfast! Who knew.
- Bifröst is the origin for the name of Bitfrost.
- I heard about Bitfrost probably during 2007, probably early in the year since it was first specified in February 2007.
- I learned about Bifröst June 4, 2013. So a fair estimate puts it at >5y.
- and it is a rainbow bridge! Between applications within "sugar" that all use a collection of libraries called "rainbow"! My goodness. I thought it was just that it was a bridge.
- Cryptographic nonces are a reference to wiktionary:en:nonce. Who knew? I learned about nonces somewhere in 2004-2007; definitely >5y; 8y is plausible.
- Ubuntu Developer Summit shirt for Quantal Quetzal that I received May 2012...
- ...is a quantized quetzal! Ingenious.
- The term "hash" in cryptography is based on the food thing. I just thought of it as a separate concept.
- I "got it" due to this zephyr discussion:
- geofft: "One of the best examples I've heard is, you take a cow, and you can turn a cow into a hamburger, but you can't turn a hamburger back into a cow."
- (quotes were in the original, as in, geofft was presumably quoting someone else.)
- glasgall: It's true that x hash is generally chopped and salted x mixed with other stuff.
- asheesh: Whoa. Is "hash" also a pun for the "Took longer than 1 year for Asheesh to get" list?
- geofft: "One of the best examples I've heard is, you take a cow, and you can turn a cow into a hamburger, but you can't turn a hamburger back into a cow."
- At this point, geofft linked to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hash_function#Origins_of_the_term and I was enlightened. 19:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- I "got it" due to this zephyr discussion:
- geofft says: did you know that Ray-Bans are named because they ban the rays of the sun from your eyes
- asheesh replies: this is terrible.
- I think this is definitely a >10 year one. I must have known about Ray-Bans in the '90s, or if not, at least pre-2004.

- Juggaloes are people who are Insane Clown Posse fans.
- Juggaloes, because clowns juggle. Astonishing. This is very likely a >10y one, although I'm not sure I knew quite what the word meant in 2007. I definitely was chatting with daf about Insane Clown Posse in 2011.
- I learned this due to some Stripe people. Which ones? I'm not sure! Maybe marty.

- "klein" is a Twisted bottle. Bottle is an old Python web microframework. (Flask is conceptually a follow-up.)
- Learned while explaining the klein project to User:Rmozone. 01:24, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- Visual pun: FedEx logo has an arrow in it (14:21, 15 June 2022 (UTC)). Learned when on a video call with Raffi. >10y
- "A drink with jam and bread... that brings us back to dough". Thanks to Raffi for this. Also >10y.
