Welcome
[edit]Ryan,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I have several questions, I will leave you a note on them soon. Leaders100 22:09, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have seen references on talk about a project to "wikify" a page. What is "wikify"? Is there a general template for creating the general desired layout of an article page? Thanks.
Leaders100 00:58, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information and the quick response. When there are clear factual errors what is the preferred approach for correcting them? An example: There are several inaccurate quotes in an article that I am interested in working on. They are in a new section of the article that has a lot of good content. Large numbers of incorrect quotes circulate which are attributed to the subject of the article, so it is difficult to get it right. Leave a message in talk before correcting factual errors or go ahead and make corrections?
Leaders100 01:22, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have read "Getting started" and "Editing Wikipedia." Do you have any additional tips or general advice for a newbie?
Leaders100 01:31, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- What do the "(???)" in text mean? I see that each ? has a related number when the "edit this page" function is opened, but it isn't clear to me what the numbers mean. Thanks.

- OK Thanks. I see ???? in several articles I am interested in, I will fix them.
- If you have time, could you look at an article I have been working on and give me an assessment on how far it is from a good article and some of the key areas of work it will need to become a good article? I understand if you are not able to do this because you are busy. Thanks. W. Edwards Deming

- What does "process wonking" mean? Thanks.
Leaders100 18:33, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- From RFA comments: (user name deleted) "has a long history of process wonking, not to mention a fine talent for what I call "civil rudeness": saying extraordinarily rude things in a manner calculated as to not be objectionable enough for people to actually call him on the carpet. A fine talent in a lawyer, I suppose, but I consider him unfit to be an admin."
Leaders100 19:06, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ryan,
- Could you look at the W. Edwards Deming article and give some feedback on if it is moving toward the good article criteria (as time permits). I have been working on adding notes, format/style, and consistency. I want to make sure I am heading in the right direction. Some factual errors still need correction and other statements need to be verified. Any suggestions on moving toward the good article criteria are welcomed. Thanks.
Leaders100 21:38, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your assistance.
Leaders100 22:35, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ryan,
- I am reaching my limits on the W. Edwards Deming article. I believe that all the factual errors have been removed and references added to support all or almost every key point. I don't have the experience to do more work on the visual formatting and other issues to improve the article. I have requested editing help in a number of places but response has been modest. Any suggests on how I can find a more experienced editor(s) to try to move it to GA or better?
- Thanks.

Ainvil(l)e ?
[edit]I grew up in W Lothian, and have been back there off and on for 40-odd years, and I can't say I ever heard of it. Nor could I find it with Multimap or Mappoint. There is clearly a place called Ainville, somewhere near Kirknewton, but it can't be much more than a farm or two houses as even on the 1:50k map it escaped me. Can I ask what your source was for this ? Angus McLellan (Talk) 17:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the pointer. I'll see what I can find in the way of confirmation. All the best ! Angus McLellan (Talk) 09:58, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

What Kind of Images should be listed as fair use
[edit]My native tongue isn't English. So I have difficuly understanding laws. I've got some historical images Will they qualify as "Fair Use"? And they're not from the US or EU Will I have to check the local copyright law or something? User:Tikai 02:28, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update
[edit]As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Richard C. Hoagland
[edit]Now, I'm curious about this: where did you get Hoagland's middle-name from? While this is the name that was in the article previously, no one has provided any source that actually calls him by that name. Alan Archer asked in the talk page, but no one has responded yet. -- Consumed Crustacean | Talk | 19:38, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Proposal on Notability
[edit]Because you're a member of the Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians, I'm notifying you that the inclusionist proposa Wikipedia:Non-notabilityl is in progress to define the role of notability in articles. Please help us make this successful! Also note the proposal Wikipedia:Importance is a deletionist proposla that seeks to officially introduce notabiltiy for the first time. Make sure this is defeated! --Ephilei 22:18, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging commons:Image:Philae from southeast.jpg
[edit]The Image commons:Image:Philae from southeast.jpg was moved some time ago to the commons-project. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Could you add the missing information to the image? Thank you --Kajk 14:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC) (For questions please contact me at my commons or german userpage)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Marisa Miller Shape cover.jpg)
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Marisa Miller Shape cover.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Abu Badali 02:03, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, Merovingian. In reply to your question on Marisa Miller, the use of magazine covers to illustrate the article on the person depicted on the cover is against the Wikipedia policy on fair use. See counter-exemple #7 in Fair use Counterexamples. Hope you understand, let me know of any other questions. Best regards, --Abu Badali 04:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
(Wikipedia:No climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spiderman)
I have threatened to climb the Reichstag, dressed up as and did so, became bollocked from editing for violating Wikipedia policy against climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spiderman, and then had it become an official policy on Wikipedia (and to be an official decree by the Supreme Cabal Regime of the English Wikipedia (SCREW)). Is Absolutley fantasitic!. This is so great!
"In extreme cases editors may be tempted to climb the Reichstag building dressed as Spiderman in order to promote their cause. This is absolutely forbidden and can result in an indefinite block from editing Wikipedia."
This single event is a great example of all the good qualities of our beloved Wikipedia! Horay!
Thats what I love about this Wonderful, wonderful website.
Next stop: The Kremlin!
Thankyou!
