Visual arts in Estonia has throughout the ages been influenced by a large variety of cultures.

Medieval period

This period was dominated by Baltic german influence. Bernt Notke and Michel Sittow, are associated with Tallinn.

Timeline

• 1902 Kristjan Raud's [symbolism|symbolist] period starts.
• 1903 Ants Laikmaa exhibits at the Provicial Museum in Tallinn.
• 1904 Kristjan Raud opens his art studio ion Tartu.
• 1905 Jaan Koort studies painting and sculpture at the Paris École des Beaux Arts. Nikolai Triik, Konrad Mägi and Aleksander Tassa also study in Paris.
• 1906 First general Estonian art exhibition takes place in Tartu
