Early Career
[edit]Between 1996 and 1997, Xiaoyuan worked as a member of technical staff at Silicon Graphics Computer Systems Inc. (SGI).[1] She worked to implement components for the Firewalker game. After her work at SGI, she worked as a guest lecturer at Stanford University, from 1997 to 1998.
From 1997 to 2000, Tu worked as a research scientist at Intel Corp, developing 3D animation software to build modelling approaches for intelligent characters, publishing a research paper in the proceedings id SIGGRAPH'99. She also worked on mpeg-4 encoding and decoding research in this position, as well as Xiaoyuan being the main developer of a system for E-commerce.
In 2000, Tu co-founded the company AiLive Co, working as a co-founder scientist and product manager until 2009. This company develops AI middle-ware for the industry of computer entertainments, particularly focusing on machine learning in games. She worked on algorithms and engineering within this company, working with Nintendo to help to create Wii Sports programs.[2]
Later Career
[edit]In 2010, Xiaoyuan started work as a lead scientist and senior software engineer in the iOS and WatchOS Motion and Location Technology department for Apple Inc. This is still her current job. She develops algorisms and capabilities for applications that use motion and location technology. She was responsible for creating the iOS compass algorithms and the iMessage Raise-to-Listen and Raise-to-Talk, alongside other technological developments for Apple devices. She has worked on GPS and other embedded sensors, and has been working for Apple for 8 years.[3]
