This article outlines the grammar of Kven language, a Finnic language.

Consonant gradations

Like other Finnic languages like Finnish or Estonian, Kven exhibited consonant gradations. Unlike the previous two, Kven words can exhibit three consonant grades at once in their inflections (singular aika : plural aijat : aikkaa "time").

  1. ^ When adjacent to syllables containing the diphthong -Vi-, or when between -l-, -r- and -e-.
  2. ^ When adjacent to -u- or -y-. Removal of -v- after -l- is also acceptable (parvun, parun).
