Agios Dimitrios, Rethymno is a settlement of the Local Community of Pigi of the Municipality of Rethymno[1] in the Regional Unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census it has 177 inhabitants. It is located 10 km east of Rethymno, at an altitude of 110 m.[2]
The village is mentioned by Francesco Barocci in 1577 as S. Demetrio. In the Venetian census of 1583 by Kastrofylakas he is referred to as S. Dimitrio with 115 inhabitants and 107 due chores and Francesco Basilicata in 1630 as S. Dimitri.[2] In the census of 1881 it refers to the municipality of Pigi and had 28 Christians and 32 Turks. In the 1900 census it had 39 inhabitants.[2] In 1925, Agios Dimitrios belonged to the community of Pigi, in the Province of Rethymno, and with the Kapodistrian administrative division belonged to the municipal district of Pigi of the Municipality of Arkadi.[3]

The church of the village is dedicated to Saint Demetrius, hence its name. Ecclesiastically, however, it is served by the parish of Pigi, which belongs to the Hierarchical district II of the Holy Metropolis of Rethymno and Avlopotamos. The church is Byzantine and very few of its hagiographies survive.
