Deletion request

[edit]

I have declined the deletion request for this page. We only delete user talk pages under extraordinary circumstances, please see WP:DELTALK for addition information. For the Danish and Norwegian versions of Wikipedia, you will need to go to those Wikipedias and follow their procedures for deletion. The English version has no control of them. To change your username, you will need to go to Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple and make the request. ~ GB fan 17:54, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Yanzhu28644-1-768x960.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:22, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Yanzhu28644-1-768x960.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

Non-commerical licenses Creative Commons licenses aren't free enough for Wikipedia's purposes and can't be used. If you can get the copyright holder of the photo to agree to give their WP:CONSENT, then the file can possibly be restored. There's some suggestions on how to do this at WP:PERMISSION. Please don't recreate file pages without files anymore because such pages are eligible for speedy deletion per WP:F2. It's OK if you didn't know this, but please don't do the same thing again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:14, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Waxworker. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Joe Pera, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Waxworker (talk) 01:54, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Mike Dailly (game designer), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. The source you cited has three problems: (1) It doesn not prove "1970". (2) It does not explicitly mention the date nor even "today". Guessing so is Wikipedia:original research. (3) The timestamp on the tweet says "May 24", not "May 23". Note also that Wikipedia:Independent sources is preferred for subjective facts such as age, because people may lie about themselves. -- Wotheina (talk) 05:51, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

should I DM him in Twitter then? Fluddsskark (talk) 06:39, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Their reply can be false (joke, lie, etc.). For facts, Reliable sources such as magazines, journals, books published by respected publishing houses, or mainstream newspapers are preferred. -- Wotheina (talk) 08:07, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
in Miguel de Icaza's wiki page, he literally mentions his birthday in Twitter, I highly doubt Dailly would lie about his birthday though. He is an obscure figure in the gaming industry so I doubt I will find a reference of anything about him unless if I really dig in. Fluddsskark (talk) 10:05, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend you to re-read Wikipedia:Independent sources#Why independent sources are required to understand the desired level of reliability. -- Wotheina (talk) 07:12, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Snowd4y moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Snowd4y. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 13:00, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Lessig in 6th January 2024.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lessig in 6th January 2024.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:19, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Miguel de Icaza, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mexican and American. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 19:55, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. Johnuniq (talk) 08:36, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed your comment at Talk:Dave Plummer because the WP:BLP policy requires that there must be no attacks against living people unless they are accompanied with very reliable sources. Questions can be asked at WP:Teahouse or WP:BLPN. Johnuniq (talk) 08:39, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

nominating BenSw to Did you know...

[edit]

Hi Fluddsskark! Thanks again for starting the BenSw article.

I was thinking of nominating it for WP:DYK since it is new enough and long enough to meet the criteria.

Would you be able to add a source or two to the BenSw § After Twitch section, since it doesn't have any citations? After that, I think it would be good to nominate; I would be happy to do so or let you, if you wish. = paul2520 💬 02:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the source comes from an already-citated article which is BenSw#cite note-1, so is there a reason to cite it again? I found his Linkedin too but I don't think it is a good way to cite his article in Wikipedia terms. I totally support the nomination though. Fluddsskark (talk) 09:12, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, inline citations should be used pretty much after every sentence (or paragraph, if the entire paragraph is based on one source).
The way to do this without creating a new citation is to name citations. For example, <ref name="Smith">{{cite web ...}}</ref> and then each successive use of this source can just have <ref name="Smith" />
This will use the same reference, without having to create a new one each time. Also I should note: I'm using the source editor, but there should be a way to do this using the visual editor, too. = paul2520 💬 13:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anyways I have added some citations, hope you like it Fluddsskark (talk) 14:14, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! You can see the nomination here. It would be great if you could keep an eye on that, in case there is feedback to address. = paul2520 💬 15:21, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for File:Notlikethis.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Notlikethis.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Notice

The article Robert Swartz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable in his own right, and notability is not inherited

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Moriwen (talk) 20:17, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
