Recess is an important component in a Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program that provides approximately 1268 and 914 steps for boys and girls, within a 15 minute period.[1] Research has shown that 15 minute recess makes a valuable contribution to children schools day physical activity.
Recess serves as a necessary break from the classroom and is crucial in providing good classroom behavior. Teacher's rating of classroom behavior scores were better for children with some recess than for those with none/minimal break. it provides a unique contribution to a child's creative, social, and emotional development. The 2006 School Health Policies and Programs Study found that 96.8% of elementary schools provided recess for at least 1 grade in the school, yet only 74% provided regular recess for all grades in the school.
