The national team finished top of their World Cup qualification group, ensuring that they would qualify for their fourth appearance at the final tournament, and their first since 2002.

World Cup qualification

After staying unbeaten in the first half of their qualification campaign, Denmark would go on to clinch qualification on 10 October 2009, with a 1–0 win against Sweden.
