Sinplus is an alternative rock duo made up of brothers Ivan and Gabriel Broggini originally from Locarno, Switzerland.[1]

Music career

[edit]

Sinplus was formed in 2009 by brothers Ivan Broggini (guitar) and Gabriel Broggini (vocals). Inspired by their shared passion for music, they began writing and performing together, crafting a sound that blends raw energy with melodic hooks. Their name reflects their philosophy of embracing imperfection and striving for authenticity in their art.

In 2012, Sinplus represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest[2] in Baku, Azerbaijan with the song "Unbreakable". The performance brought international exposure and marked an important milestone in their early career.

Following Eurovision, Sinplus’s early releases gained traction within Switzerland and led to opportunities to expand their audience across Europe. They gradually built a reputation for their dynamic performances and evolving sound.

Critical Acclaim and Artistic Evolution

[edit]

In 2014, Sinplus received the MTV award as Best Swiss Act, a testament to their growing prominence in Switzerland’s music landscape. They also earned a nomination for Best European Act, cementing their reputation beyond their home country.

By their sophomore album, Up to Me (2014), Sinplus began experimenting with broader influences, incorporating electronic textures and more refined production. Songs like "Love Is Free," featuring Lady Chann, highlighted their versatility and knack for genre-blurring collaborations.

Their subsequent releases, This Is What We Are (2017) and Break the Rules (2021), marked a creative renaissance. While the former delved into themes of identity and self-acceptance, the latter channeled the rebellious spirit of punk rock, showcasing their ability to adapt while staying true to their roots.

Musical Style

[edit]

Sinplus’s music is characterized by powerful guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and emotionally charged vocals, with influences drawn from iconic bands such as U2, The Killers, and The Black Keys. The band’s lyrics often explore themes of personal growth, resilience, and self-discovery. Their approach to songwriting and production reflects a commitment to crafting music that is both impactful and relatable, with a dynamic range that appeals to a broad audience.

Live Performances and Touring

[edit]

Sinplus is known for their dynamic live performances, having appeared at prominent events such as the Isle of Wight[3] and Moon & Stars[4]. Their tours have spanned Europe, with shows ranging from intimate club gigs to massive festival audiences. Sharing stages with acts like Roxette, The Darkness and Mando Diao, the duo has earned a reputation for their ability to connect with fans through raw passion and commanding stage presence.

Legacy and Impact

[edit]

Sinplus has carved out a distinct space in the alternative rock world, balancing commercial appeal with artistic authenticity. Their resilience, both as musicians and as individuals, mirrors the spirit of their music—a call to face life’s challenges with determination and optimism. With a growing global fan base and an ever-expanding musical repertoire, Sinplus continues to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be a modern rock act.
