The University of Sargodha was established in 2002 by an ordinance of the Government of Pakistan Formerly, it was called the Government College, Sargodha. Currently (2007), Dr. Muhammad Akram Chaudhary is the Vice-Chancellor of Sargodha University. The university is getting popular because there are remote areas around Sargodha, and most of the students now want to study in the University of Sargodha.

History

Govt. College Sargodha, at Shahpur before partition, was shifted to Sargodha in 1946. Very soon, it became the hub of all the cultural and intellectual activities.

In 1987-88, post graduate classes were introduced at Govt. College in the disciplines of English, Urdu, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Islamic Studies, History.

In November 2002, College was upgraed to the rank of University of Sargodha. Soon after its inception in 2002, the University of Sargodha under the dynamic leadership of its founder Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Riaz-ul-Haq Tariq, put a giant step on the road to progress and since then never looked back. Recently in the year 2007 Prof.Dr.Akram Ch became The second Vice-Chancellor of the University

  • Khurram Shahzad: In the year of 1997 he was the most distinguished student of this institution. Not only he secured the 1st position in the annual HSSC examination held by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Sargodha but after 5 years won the "Gold Medal" for securing the maximum marks overall. He is currently completing his Master of Science in clinical research methods at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. He is also working at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Heart Failure/Heart Transplant Program.
