Travie McCoy

Travis McCoy (born August 5, 1981) is the lead vocalist of the alternative hip-hop group Gym Class Heroes.

Musician

Travis made his MTV debut in the summer of 2002, as he appeared on stage at the beach house on a standard nation-wide MC Battle that was held on the MTV show Direct Effect.[1]

McCoy was arrested on July 1 2008 after hitting a man on the head with his microphone. The man had been in the crowd at a concert in St. Louis when he called McCoy a "fucking ignorant nigger."[2] McCoy calmly asked the man, "What did you just call me?" As security was removing the man from the venue, McCoy brought the man on stage to call him out in front of the crowd. In a statement, McCoy's publicist said that the man hit McCoy in his knee, which was in a brace after he had suffered a recent strain.[2]

Guest appearances

McCoy is featured in several music videos for Fall Out Boy. He appears as a vampire in "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More 'Touch Me'", and a dancer in their videos for "Dance, Dance" and "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" (also singing in the remix.)

He also rapped a verse on the song "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)" video, for the film Snakes on a Plane, alongside Gabe Saporta (Cobra Starship), William Beckett (The Academy Is...), and Maja Ivarsson (The Sounds).[3] He also sings vocals for Cobra Starship's album ¡Viva La Cobra! in the track "Kiss My Sass". He appears as an onlooker in a crowd in Styles P's video "Daddy Gotta Get That Cash". McCoy collaborated with R&B singer Kelly Rowland in the track called "Daylight", a single from the re-release of her album Ms. Kelly. The video premiered on Vivement Dimanche in France on January 6, 2008.

McCoy, Lil Wayne, & Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy made appearances in the video for McCoy's cousin Tyga's single, "Coconut Juice."[4] McCoy also raps a verse in the song. He made an appearance on rapper Omen's album Be the Judge on the song "Overdose on Life", featuring Drake and Mickey Factz. McCoy makes a cameo in DJ Khaled's video for "Out Here Grindin".[5]

Personal life

In early March 2008, Travis opened up about his battles with opioids. He stated that he had been addicted to pharmaceuticals since he was 15 years old. [6]

McCoy dated singer Katy Perry, who appeared as his girlfriend in the Cupid's Chokehold video and toured along with his band on the Warped Tour, on and off for several years. He had given a promise ring to Perry, and[7] when asked if this was rehearsal for an actual proposal, McCoy shrugged with a grin. The two broke up in December of 2008.[8] They began dating again in April 2009.[9]

McCoy is a vegetarian.[10]
