History

The Toronto Paramedic Association was formed in 1992 to represent the professional of Paramedics employed by Toronto Emergency Medical Services (TEMS). [1] During initial stages of development membership consisted largely of Advanced Care Practitioners. Over time the TPA has grown to include membership from all practitioner levels within TEMS.


The Toronto Paramedic Association is a Chapter of the Ontario Paramedic Association (OPA) [2] The OPA, having 2,800 members, is a chapter of the Paramedic Association of Canada, which has over 14,000 members [3] The Toronto Paramedic Association is not a labour representative. The labour interests of members are represented by CUPE Local 416. [4]
