The Vamps are a British pop rock band consisting of members Brad Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball, Tristan Evans and Amanda Robertson.[1] They formed in early 2012 and signed to Mercury Records in November that year.[2] The Vamps supported McFly on their Memory Lane Tour in early 2013.[3] They also performed at several festival-style events around the UK as support acts for bands such as The Wanted, JLS, Little Mix and Lawson.[4]

On 29 September 2013, The Vamps released their debut single "Can We Dance", which debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart.[5] Their second single "Wild Heart" was released on 18 January 2014 and peaked at number three.[citation needed]. Their third single "Last Night" was released on the UK radio on 24 February 2014. Their debut album will be released on 14 April 2014.[6]

In February 2014, The Vamps released "Wild Heart" as their debut single in the United States and Canada.

History

2011–12: Formation

In 2011 James McVey was already managed by Richard Rashman and Joe O'Neill of Prestige Management. Deciding he wanted to form a band, McVey subsequently discovered Brad Simpson through YouTube.[1] Together, the pair wrote songs towards the later months of 2011, with Simpson later becoming lead singer.[1] In 2012, Simpson and McVey met Tristan Evans through Facebook. The trio then met Connor Ball via a mutual friend.[1][7] In mid-2012, the band started uploading cover songs to their YouTube channel.[citation needed]

2013–present: Debut album and touring

On 22 July 2013, the band uploaded their first original song, "Wildheart" (later re-titled "Wild Heart"), onto their YouTube account; the video receiving over 46,000 views within the first two days.[8][9] On 6 August, they released the music video for their debut single "Can We Dance", which received over 1 million views within two weeks.[10][better source needed] "Can We Dance" was released on 29 September and debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart on 6 October; beaten to number two by OneRepublic's "Counting Stars",[5] which sold 1,250 copies more.[11] On 19 November the band announced they would release their debut album "around Easter".[12]

On 22 November, The Vamps announced that their second single would be "Wild Heart".[13] The song received its first airplay three days later[14] and was released on 19 January 2014, peaking at number three the following week.

On 13 March 2014, The Vamps announced that their debut album would be released on 14 April 2014. They are yet to announce its title.[6]

Members

Brad Simpson

Bradley "Brad" William Simpson (born 28 July 1995)[15] is from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. He sings lead vocals and plays guitar. Simpson met James McVey via YouTube in 2011 and they have been working on their debut album since.[16]

James McVey

James Daniel McVey (born 30 April 1994)[15] is from Bournemouth. He is the lead guitarist and sings backing vocals. McVey met Brad Simpson via YouTube in 2011 and they have been working on their debut album since.[16]

Connor Ball

Connor Samuel George Ball (born 15 March 1996 in Aberdeen, Scotland)[15] is from Birmingham. He plays bass guitar and sings backing vocals. He was the last to join the band.[citation needed]

Tristan Evans

Tristan Oliver Vance Evans (born 15 August 1994)[15] is from Exeter, Devon. He plays drums and sings backing vocals.[citation needed]

Tours

The Vamps supported McFly on their Memory Lane Tour in April and May 2013, and Selena Gomez at London's Hammersmith Apollo on 7 and 8 September 2013.[3][29] In October, it was announced that The Vamps would support Taylor Swift on the London leg of her Red Tour in February 2014,[30] and The Wanted on the UK and Ireland leg of their Word of Mouth World Tour from 14 March to 1 April.[31] On 12 February 2014, the band announced that they will be headlining their own UK tour in September and October 2014.[32]
