The Real Housewives of New York City is a reality television program on the Bravo network. It is the spin-off of the successful series The Real Housewives of Orange County.

The show's first season premiered on March 4, 2008. The five housewives are Bethenny Frankel, LuAnn de Lesseps, Alex McCord, Ramona Singer, and Jill Zarin.

The series was renewed for a second season on April 15, 2008 and premieres on Bravo in the USA on February 17, 2009 welcoming the sixth housewife, Kelly Killoren Bensimon.

Cast

Kelly Killoren Bensimon

Kelly Bensimon, in her late forties, is the newest housewife to join the "Real Housewives" series. Bensimon is a mother of two, and juggles her love of fashion and business. She is a designer, author, model, equestrian, and editor. Although she is far from a household name she is quite popular in the fashion and society circles of New York City.

Bethenny Frankel

Bethenny Frankel is a socialite in her 30s with a burgeoning career as a natural foods chef. She is a celebrity chef who owns her own company, Bethenny Bakes, has a health column in Hamptons Magazine, is a TV spokesperson for Health Magazine and for Pepperidge Farms new line of foods, and was the runner-up on The Apprentice: Martha Stewart. She starred in the movie Hollywood Hills 90028. She considers New York City her playground.

LuAnn de Lesseps

LuAnn de Lesseps, a former Wilhelmina_Models model,[1] is a trained nurse, and a member of the Algonquin tribe of Connecticut.[2] She is the fourth wife of Count Alexandre de Lesseps, a descendant of Ferdinand de Lesseps of the Suez Canal family. They have two children -- Victoria, age 14, and Noel, age 12 (who has dogs named Aston and Martin). It was recently reported that Count Alexandre de Lesseps has informed the Countess of his plans for seperation following a possible affair. THATS DISCOUNTESS

Alex McCord

McCord has two children (Francois & Johan), a husband (Simon van Kempen). Her children take music, art, swimming and French classes in their free time, and their Au pair speaks French to them, in hopes the kids will be bilingual. Francois attends a public school in Brooklyn. McCord was recently laid off from her job in visual merchandising for a high profile fashion company. McCord was born in Washington DC and has lived in Washington DC; St Thomas USVI; Dallas, TX; Fort Scott, KS; Chicago, IL; and Milan, Italy. She has lived in New York City since 1996 and currently resides in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn.

Ramona Singer

Singer is an entrepreneur. She owns her own business, R.M.S. Fashions, a jewelry line, truefaithjewelry.com, a clothing line "True Faith," and is developing a skin care line as well. She and her husband Mario, a third generation jeweler, and their 13-year-old daughter Avery, live in a condo in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They also have a second home in Southampton. Ramona is an avid tennis player who loves to entertain. ^[1]

Jill Zarin

Jill Zarin is married to Bobby Zarin, a successful entrepreneur, and together they operate Zarin Fabrics and Home Furnishings. She is also involved in numerous charities. Zarin juggles her career with being a wife and a mother to her daughter Allyson and her stepchildren David, Jennifer and Jonathan.

Jill is also friends with Carole Rome and Rome's husband Charlie Crist, Governor of Florida. Carole hosted the "Farewell to Summer party at Chateau Rome" that was filmed for an episode in the first season of the program.^[2]

Episode 1

Ramona and her daughter, Avery, are planning to go to the Hamptons. Beforehand, Avery tells Ramona to dress more "conservatively" and is ashamed of her mother's actions at a pool party. Jill's daughter, Allyson, thinks about attending a detox center in Martha's Vineyard, so the two visit the center. Luann is busy moving into her Hamptons home for the summer with the help of Rossana, her nanny. LuAnn buys her son, Noel, a puppy but still has doubts. Bethenny is working on her career but wants to settle down with boyfriend Jason but doubts if he wants the same thing since he has three children already. Alex and her husband, Simon, vacation in St.Barts and have a lavish shopping spree at Roberto Cavalli.
