The Last Dog on Earth is a book written by Daniel Ehrenhaft under the pen name Daniel Parker. It was first published in 2003.

Plot introduction

The Last Dog on Earth's main focus is about a boy, Logan, who gets a female dog from a shelter, who he names Jack. At the time, an incurable disease, known as POS (Psychotic Outbreak Syndrome,) is spreading. POS makes animals go crazy and attack anything, before they die. A cure cannot be found, but Logan's dog, Jack, is found to be immune to the disease.

Other Humans

Robert is Logan's stepfather. They were on bad terms throughout the entire book, but thanks to Jack, they finally were able to resolve their conflict.

Logan's mother married Robert after Logan's biological father left. She barely stands up for Loganb. When it came time to get a dog for Logan, she decided to go against Robert's wishes and allow Logan to get a dog from the shelter.

Dr. Craig Westerly is Logan's biological father who deserted Logan and his mother. He is a scientist who lives in the mountains with a dog named Jasmine. After a series of events taking place when Logan runs away, Dr. Westerly comes across Logan and, not knowing who he is, takes him back to his house.

Devon Wallace is the owner of Otis and an enemy of Logan. At the end of the book, they come to a vague understanding and seem to have lost any hate for eachother.

Sergeant Bell is the strict head of the boot camp Blue Mountain Camp for Boys.

Perry is a boy at Blue Mountain Camp for Boys. He constantly lies and smokes ciggarettes. He also has a tatoo that reads Tomb.

Freeze is a boy at Blue Mountain Camp for Boys. He hangs out with Perry. He claims to have killed a principal by impaling him. He smokes ciggarettes.

Wack Man is a boy at Blue Mountain Camp for Boys. He hangs around Perry, and resembles him. His eyes are described as demonic by Logan. He smokes ciggarettes.

Other Dogs

White Paws is Jack's brother. He is encountered by Jack and Logan when they are hiding in the woods. He is infected with POS and dies.

Otis is the Wallace's dog. He is a Labrador Retriever. He is infected and dies of POS.

Jasmine is Dr. Westerly's dog. She is infected with POS, but Dr. Westerly puts her down before she goes crazy.

Jack was Robert's Labrador Retriever. Logan's dog was named after him to please Robert.
