Calendar nomenclature used on template

I think it would make sense to replace the term "ab urbe condita" with something like, though not necessarily, "Julian Calendar (Pre-Christian)," as AUC is an era and not a calendar. What does everyone (or anyone who sees this) think? Mutophilus (talk) 01:29, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The phrase "in various calendars" is, in effect, short for "year in eras associated with certain calendars". Some calendars are commonly used with various eras. For example, the Julian calendar is used with AUC, BC, AD, and Byzantine calendar. In Rome at the time the Julian calendar was adopted, AUC was not used much; mostly years were designated by naming the consuls who held office during the year. There may not be any editor following this talk page who is familiar with the Kurdish calendar. It often turns out that a culture has a few different calendars, and it can be hard for people not from that culture to know which one is intended.
