Something is wrong again

[edit]

Instead of rendering the template page, when arriving on the subjectpage, it produces an error message

The time allocated for running scripts has expired. The time allocated for running scripts has expired.

Please see my previous post on the matter, timed at 22:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC). --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Per that, link to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 213#The time allocated for running scripts has expired, which itself says do a WP:PURGE -- 65.92.247.96 (talk) 22:16, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's no good. You need to purge the page where you actually see the red error messages. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:20, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's the page where I saw the red error message. I was reading the template page -- 65.92.247.96 (talk) 05:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see Primefac has added includeonly to the template which has fixed the problem of scripts timing out but has removed other functionality. We need to look at why this is happening and resolve that. The Module:WikiProject banner/templatepage includes a number of checks (such as whether categories exist, etc.) and it is possible we need to reduce these. But with 95 task forces, this template is always going to be an outlier — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request to complete TfD nomination

[edit]

Template:WikiProject United States has been listed at Templates for discussion (nomination), but it was protected, so it could not be tagged. Please add:

{{subst:tfm|help=off|1=WikiProject Barack Obama}}

to the top of the page to complete the nomination. Thank you. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 15:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it not necessary to put a prominent notice on all these transclusions. As long as Template:WikiProject Barack Obama is tagged, that should be fine — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

State WikiProjects

[edit]

I noticed while trying to use this template that WikiProjects Alaska, Oregon, and California are missing. Is there a specific reason for their absence? TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 15:50, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TheTechnician27: They have their own templates, {{WikiProject Alaska}} {{WikiProject Oregon}} {{WikiProject California}}. You should use the appropriate one of those. See also #California and Hawaii are not listed and the archives of this page. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:27, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64: Ah, thank you very much. Do you know if those projects elect not to create a template or if someone simply hasn't done it yet? TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 17:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some years ago there was an attempt to put all fifty states plus DC (and, IIRC, the territories) into Template:WikiProject United States. It failed, hugely, for several reasons, and discussions may be found in the archives, as I mentioned earlier. If the WikiProjects for individual states wish to use their own banners, or wish to simply be a parameter of WikiProject United States, that's their own individual decisions. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:22, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I should also point out that one of the users attempting to merge all of the state banners into this one was considered to be disruptive, and so was first blocked, then indef-blocked, then site-banned, and is now globally banned from all WMF projects. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:29, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Even this year, 13 years after those events, I'm having to clean up problems left from that user's project merging bot. I've had a good mind to move a few projects out of WP US, but thinking about the effort involved gives me a headache. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 19:52, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request 2 March 2025

[edit]

Please deprecate the Hispanic and Latino taskforce, as the taskforce is now its own WikiProject and there was consensus on the talk page. Remove Hispanic and Latino Americans and MexicanAmericans is now a taskforce of Latino and Hispanic heritage. Erick (talk) 20:30, 2 March 2025 (UTC) @Timrollpickering: could you do the above request since you just added the template just now?[reply]

That will take a more complicated set of editing than just changing the name to fix the cats. A more experienced template editor is better placed to handle that. Timrollpickering (talk) 12:33, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearcat: Are you able to do it? We have our own project banner now. Erick (talk) 17:20, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That would require more complex editing than I'm equipped to handle. The only thing I did today was fix a couple of category declarations that had been prematurely renamed in the template, causing pages to get moved out of categories that exist and into redlinked categories that don't exist, so I had to put them back to the names they were at — obviously if and when the categories get moved, the new names can be added to the template, but they can't be presumptively renamed in the template in advance of any category moves because pages can't be left sitting in redlinked categories — but what you're asking for here is well beyond what I would know how to do. Your best bet would be to make a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Templates, since the participants there have more expertise. Bearcat (talk) 17:35, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
