Descendant WikiProject parameters

Description of suggested change:

Add the rest of the Descendant WikiProjects to the optional parameters (e.g, `security=yes|security-importance=Low`). Tule-hog (talk) 01:17, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:43, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Added a link in OP to the sidebar which shows a list of descendant projects to Computing. Comment is in 'add X to Y' format. Tule-hog (talk) 23:42, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The NESTED parameter was missing, so this has been  completed for the Computer Security project. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 03:50, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, this is a distinct request from the one below it. Here I am referring to missing subproject parameters in the primary Computing template itself (used to mark subprojects as well as their importance via <subproj>-importance={Low/Mid/High}).
Currently missing (followed by a recommended parameter name) are:

Not done for now: has there been discussion about adding these? These additions appear to need a consensus. Please achieve consensus before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 04:32, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is the only discussion I've seen - I presumed it was a default behavior for WikiProject templates and their descendants, and this was simply out-of-date.
Is this post the right place to seek consensus, or should it be posted elsewhere? Tule-hog (talk) 04:40, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is the right place for a discussion about adding to this template, and a notification post at WT:WikiProject Computing should bring interested project members to this page to express their opinions. A search of the archives on that page might reveal past discussions about adding descendents. See also WP:WikiProject Computing/Templates#Article assessment and project identification, which would also need to be updated. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 05:03, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did not realize I had stepped into a classic WikiProject snag with this. Thank you Paine for recommending a search through the archives. Here is a list of similar past discussions:
From browsing through these, my take-away is that a couple of bold edits created the initial banner feature, and further calls to standardize it went un-answered. The misunderstanding post is worrying, but as far as I can tell incorrect - the descendant parameters also add the article to the descendant project (e.g., Patch (computing) is correctly sorted). Tule-hog (talk) 05:49, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How is the child-parent organization of projects established. Is there a database or a list or what? In other words, what is your source for your list above of missing children? ~Kvng (talk) 15:18, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing/sidebar Tule-hog (talk) 20:11, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Clearly there are many cases where a child project has it's own WP banners. It is currently acceptable to use either these banners or parameters in the parent banner, if available. The question is whether we need to improve the "if available" situation. I guess a reasonable answer is, why not? I can't think of a reason why not. ~Kvng (talk) 15:01, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Further, I believe I've seen consensus established against editors systematically altering articles to use a parent banner+child parameter, instead of multiple banners. I am having trouble finding that discussion though. Tule-hog (talk) 22:08, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request 21 July 2024

Description of suggested change: Add missing display tags to descendant WikiProject previews in banner shell.

E.g., in the following example (now removed) both Software and CompSec are tagged `=yes`, but only Software displays. Tule-hog (talk) 03:10, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Completed – added the missing NESTED parameter. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 03:51, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gorgeous, thank you! Tule-hog (talk) 04:08, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:User WP Computing straggler category

Bumping an edit request for the userbox of this project. Tule-hog (talk) 22:50, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request 26 August 2024

Add a WikiProject Databases option (i.e. databases=yes).

This is a sub-proposal of an earlier one, split off because it is less significant. See all proposals for WP Databases, each of which already intended to add the suggested parameter to this template. Tule-hog (talk) 23:33, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:03, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
