Israeli settlements
[edit]This map doesn't reflect Israeli settlements at all. Can someone remedy this? TewfikTalk 06:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't put them on because this is really inteded to be PNA-specific map. The bolded names are PNA goveronates and the cities are the major ones under PNA jurisdiction. I think of it as a parallel to Template:Judea and Samaria.
- But I sense you want to include Israeli settlements in West Bank articles as equals, but I viewed the parallel West Bank and Judea and Samaria terminology as implicitly being associated with PNA jurisdiction and Israeli jurisdiction respectively. The PNA and Israeli jurisdictions seems to be relatively separated into their own articles. We can start to blend them but we should discuss this and it may tie in with that naming conventions thing we were talking about earlier. --AbnnTalk 06:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- To be clear, what I am saying is that I associated the terminology "West Bank" implicitly with PNA. This template, since is uses the term West Bank is normally going to be reflective of PNA perspectives. I would suggest the creation of a separate Israeli settlement map. It shouldn't be too hard to whip up. It would require a different background image as the light colored borders on this one reflect the PNA governorates, not the Israeli regional districts and subdivisions. --AbnnTalk 06:20, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I see West Bank as a neutral geographic entity. Judea and Samaria is an Israeli administrative unit, and theoretically is a bare bones listing of its jurisdiction (in practice it shares the page with a short discussion of the associated political term, but it doesn't discuss the geography, which is West Bank's job). It doesn't have a precise Palestinian analogue since that government hasn't designated an overarching administrative unit coterminous with the West Bank, but the same type of discussion is held on the individual governorate entries (like Shomron Regional Council and Nablus Governorate). TewfikTalk 01:57, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- If this map is going to be used on the West Bank page, than it should include the settlements. --Shuki 11:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- The settlements are not recognized by the Palestinian National Authority or more importantly the United Nations. The West Bank by the definitions of the Green Line is explicitly recognized as a part of the Palestinian territories and to be administered by a Palestinian government. Thus, with these factors we should not include Israeli settlements in the map for any of the Palestinian territories. -- Al Ameer son 02:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to matter much less that the settlements are 'recognized' and more that they undeniably exist on the ground. An image on the 'West Bank' page should be representative of geo-political fact, not skewed to 'Palestinian Territories' or 'Judea and Samaria' for that matter too. This image could be used on other articles, not here without being updated. --Shuki 16:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I guess that is true, so what we include major settlements or relocate the map to Palestinian territories.
- If this map is going to be used on the West Bank page, than it should include the settlements. --Shuki 11:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- On Another note I stongly urge that we add the cities of Tulkarm, Qalqilyah and perhaps Yattah to the map, -- Al Ameer son 01:48, 5 June 2007
East Jerusalem
[edit]The map implies that parts of East Jerusalem are somehow subordinated to the Palestinian Authority (presumably marked green), which is not true, as far as I know.--Doron 10:04, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
i agree i believe that this map is misleading into making people believe that the palestinians have control of all of the west bak when truly they only have control of some of it.--Marbehtorah-marbehchaim (talk) 06:11, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Map is broken in IE
[edit]The map does not display properly in IE 8. Usually I just get a blank space. 86.134.10.88 (talk) 23:24, 6 January 2010 (UTC).
- There is a similar-sounding issue mentioned at Template_talk:Location_map#Map_does_not_work_properly_in_IE. I'm not sure if it's ultimately the same cause or something different. 86.146.46.169 (talk) 00:21, 8 January 2010 (UTC).
