Proposed Changes

[edit]

I'm proposing a couple changes to {{WWE superstar}}

  • To extend the external link to include "profile" and move the external link icon there
  • To add an optional parameter |suffix=' to suppress the additional s on possessives of plurals ending in an s or z sound.

This is essentially applying a fix recently implemented on {{YouTube}} which is discussed here. (This will allow for correction of template-introduced typos, eg: The Nasty Boys's →‎ The Nasty Boys'.) You can check my work on the sandbox and testcases. Thanks. - Reidgreg (talk) 15:03, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

While I have your attention, I've noticed a couple other templates which might benefit from some cosmetic alteration. {{Roh roster}}, {{NJPW profile}} and {{Cagematch}} could have their output reformatted to Name's profile at site, moving the external link icon to after profile. - Reidgreg (talk) 18:26, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the contribution. I've been thinking, and I don't know if we need the word profile at all. That would mean you woudn't need a possesive, and be consistent with other external link templates such as {{IMDb_name}}. The link would look like "John Cena at WWE.com". I think the other templates could be similar. The NJPW one would be "Matt Sydal at the New Japan Pro Wrestling official website. I've notified WP:PW in case anyone else wants to comment. Another option to remove the possessive would be to phrase it as: Profile of John Cena at WWE.com - Reidgreg (talk) 11:10, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think "Profile of John Cena.." would work too, instead of "John Cena's profile", but I think just "John Cena at.." is better than both as it is more succinct, and I don't think profile adds anything to the description as i think most people would expect an external link to be some sort of profile.
