How do I edit a protected template

[edit]

Need to edit the Template:Top male singles tennis players by country to Remove a player that switched nationalities. Can you please help me. Sashona (talk) 20:30, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sashona This is the place ask, hopefully someone who can edit the template will check (like @Primefac) this page now and then. It may help if you state who this is and provide a WP:RS that confirms nationality switch. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:55, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Echoing the above request - there are a few possible ways to change the stored information, but I need to know more. Primefac (talk) 20:58, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The player is Alexander Shevchenko (tennis) and he switched from Russia to Kazakhstan on 28 January 2024. All the source information is on his page, here is one link https://www.tennis.com/news/articles/russian-alexander-shevchenko-announces-nationality-change-to-kazakhstan Sashona (talk) 21:03, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've removed him from the overrides page, so when the bot does its next update run (next Tuesday) he should appear in the proper place. The template call on his page will need to be updated after that happens. Primefac (talk) 21:25, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, he appears now at the proper template, but it needs to say that he lost 11 positions (from No. 48 to No. 59) with a red arrow, not gained as it is showing now with a green arrow. The template should also say 29 January 2024 (Monday) as rankings are official always only on Mondays. Sashona (talk) 23:28, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because PrimeHunter updated the page a week early, the arrows will be off, nothing I can really do about that. Not sure why the date is wrong but it's fixed for now. Primefac (talk) 06:41, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Primefac, another request for switch of Nationalities. This time it is Benjamin Hassan switching officially from Germany to Lebanon as of 24 June 2024 according to the ATP website: https://www.atptour.com/en/players/benjamin-hassan/hg94/overview . Can you please remove him from the Germany list. Thank you Sashona (talk) 22:02, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ping @Primefac. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:09, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said on my talk page, this was done shortly before this post was made, in Special:Diff/1230801662 (automatically, by the bot, fwiw). Primefac (talk) 23:00, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the bother. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:04, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I do watch this page but a ping is never not okay (and you probably didn't know that they had also posted to my talk). Primefac (talk) 11:08, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Novak Rjokovic

[edit]

For reasons I'm not sure, the Serbian version of the Template:Top male singles tennis players by country has Novak Djokovic (tennis), rather than just Novak Djokovic. Can someone fix this? SailorGardevoir (talk) 02:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You'd have to ask someone on the Serbian wiki to do so. Primefac (talk) 07:55, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why would the Serbian wiki be responsible for this error? SailorGardevoir (talk) 07:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, I misread your initial comment as "the Serbian Wikipedia version..." not this template using SRB. The template checks pages ending in (tennis) before checking if the un-disambiguated page exists to avoid linking to disambiguation pages. Since Novak Djokovic (tennis) exists it links to that as the first viable target. Primefac (talk) 08:10, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way we can bypass that? I just discovered the same issue regarding Andy Murray. SailorGardevoir (talk) 08:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said at one of the original discussions about issues with the module, I'm not sure we should be excluding every (tennis) disambiguator that happens to be a redirect to the non-disambiguated title. You're welcome to do so if you feel that strongly about it, though. Primefac (talk) 20:01, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The template is not displaying, due to an error, need fix

[edit]

There is an “error message” displaying on all pages that include this template: Lua error in Module:ATP_rankings at line 64: Invalid country code 'USA' specified for Module:ATP rankings. It is also displayed in this article under the Template tab with code 'ITA'. Sashona (talk) 1:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Issue with the bot, looks like. I've reverted for now, so the error should start going away as the cache rolls through it's thing. Primefac (talk) 01:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your assistance. Sashona (talk) 01:48, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Russian No. 10: Alexey Zakharov (319) or Alexey Vatutin (368)

[edit]

Why is Russian #10 on the list of the best men's singles tennis players Alexey Vatutin (368), and not Alexey Zakharov (319)? Zboris (talk) 17:00, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because the Russians (and Belarusians) are listed without a country on the ATP list, they need to be manually added to the module so that the bot knows what country to assign to them. Apparently Zakharov was not added to the list prior to now, but I have done so; he should be added to the table when it next updates (which I believe is on Tue or Wed). Primefac (talk) 17:17, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your assistance. There is an article here Draft:Alexey Zakharov. Zboris (talk) 19:10, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know. Just for information purposes, the name will not be linked in the template until there is an article. Primefac (talk) 21:27, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
