word "stem group"

I recognised that the word "stem group" means the several basal extinct lineages against the extant major clades (crown group). Is the usage in this template correct? --Kingfiser (talk) 10:40, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some people use it as a synonym of 'branch-based clade' (i.e. everything more closely related to A than to B) but this is not the standard, orthodox definition of stem-group. Kiwi Rex (talk) 17:27, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
