Style tweaks

[edit]

{{editprotected}}

This template adds rather a bit too much padding to container templates. I've started a sandbox which fixes this. Just needs synced. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 15:26, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:45, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Same again. padding reduction. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 10:02, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Add documentation and iw

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Can {{documentation}} be added so the iw no:Mal:Ombox/Shortcut can be added? Nsaa (talk) 18:07, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I've added the interwiki link as well. —David Levy 18:54, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More parameters

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Please add parameters 6-9 in a manner similar to parameters 1-5 so that (in the case I noticed) the 6th parameter WP:FOOTBALLPLAYERWHOSHALLNOTBENAMED can be displayed by WP:FOOTBALLPLAYERWHOSHALLNOTBENAMED. Thanks!   — Jeff G.  ツ 19:08, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Surely 5 shortcuts is ample for any page. We have to limit it somewhere and 5 is a reasonable limit. As an aside, why should WP:FOOTBALLPLAYERWHOSHALLNOTBENAMED redirect to Wikipedia:Don't shoot yourself in the foot. Is this some kind of in-joke? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done
Indeed, past discussions have resulted in a limit of five, with substantial doubt that even that many are called for. —David Levy 21:14, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to be a reference to Plaxico Burress, who shot himself in the thigh, created in conjunction with this edit in response to these edits.   — Jeff G.  ツ 00:23, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
An unwieldy shortcut created as a joke should not listed.
In case you aren't aware, the shortcut box's purpose is to link to the most convenient shortcut(s), not to document every one in existence. —David Levy 02:59, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:34, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

HTML

[edit]

Why don't we close <th> and <tr> tags in this template? --DixonD (talk) 17:06, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On my Wikipedia fork, this missing </th></tr> causes trouble (I don't know how it is ignored on Wikipedia itself). Please correct. Dpleibovitz (talk) 15:20, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Resizing

[edit]

Please look at the "WikiProject status" box at the top of "Wikipedia:WikiProject Geographical coordinates".

When I first looked at it, I (incorrectly) saw three shortcuts:

  • WP:GEO
  • WP:GEO
  • COOR

Why can't Ombox/shortcut resize (automatically or via a parameter) so we clearly see only two shortcuts:

  • WP:GEO
  • WP:GEO COOR

Div instead of table?

[edit]

I've proposed changing a template similar to this, from a table containing a single header cell, to just a plain div. I'd like to propose similar changes to this template.

Please see details and discussion at Template talk:Shortcut#Div instead of table?. Matt Fitzpatrick (talk) 04:44, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Ombox/shortcut/sandbox to Template:Ombox/shortcut (diff) (testcases)

Module:Shortcut has been changed from a <table> to a <div> (diff) per discussion at Template talk:Shortcut § Div instead of table?. This change harmonizes Template:Ombox/shortcut with the new version of Module:Shortcut, by also changing the <table> to a <div>, and structuring the shortcuts as a <ul>. Matt Fitzpatrick (talk) 03:16, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Prevent shortcuts from wrapping?

[edit]

Shortcuts with hyphens tend to be rendered with line-wrap, making the template look weird. See WP:ID-NC or WP:ZH-NC. Can we make them always non-wrapping, i.e. fitting into one line per shortcut? HaEr48 (talk) 03:12, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:39, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Added the change to sandbox (diff) and a test case here [1]. HaEr48 (talk) 02:57, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done seems uncontroversial, but may be reverted on request if it causes any problems — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:45, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another shortcut issue

[edit]

Can someone who's had more coffee than I have figure out why bullets are showing up in the shortcut lists? I noticed this in uses of {{WikiProject status}}, which calls {{Ombox/shortcut}}. E.g., at WP:WikiProject Cats, the banner has a messed up display with stray bullets in its shortcut box, which is also growing the vertical space used by the template. I moved the plainlinks class to the <ul> element where it belongs (out of the <div>, but the incorrect effect is still appearing, after a purge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMcCandlish (talkcontribs) 07:31, January 31, 2017 (UTC)

Noticed this as well. The first few templates that I happened to view were rather obscure ones, then I noticed quite a few of those were displaying this way, so I just decided to check more mainstream ones and sure enough. Dropping a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Templates.— Godsy (TALKCONT) 21:14, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it's something in site-wide CSS or JS? I can't see anything in the templates that would cause this directly.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  21:37, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this is the same issue, but the WMF was working on removing Tidy and one issue being discussed was that it might cause empty bullets to appear. One of the things Tidy does is remove empty bullets, and some templates emit bullets expecting them to be suppressed when the associated content is empty. I don't know how they planned to proceed on the issue. Alsee (talk) 11:15, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Picking this thread up at WP:VPT#Bullets showing in shortcut box, the problem was that {{WikiProject status}}, which is also an ombox, applied class=hlist to its entire ombox, including its children. Unfortunately, {{Ombox/shortcut}} is designed to be a plainlist, so switching it back to an hlist screwed it up. I edited {{WikiProject status}} on 3 Feb to correct the issue. I checked (what I think is) a representative selection of pages where it's used, but there are too many (thousands) to look at them all. I believe I've fixed any issues. If anyone notices any problems/errors in my edits, it's probably best to mention it on the VPT thread. --Unready (talk) 01:33, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Unready: It's happening again, and now not just bullets are showing up, but the shortcut list is centered; I'm seeing this at WP:WikiProject Redirect, for example. The hlist class used by {{WikiProject status}} is not wrapping the shortcut box. — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  23:27, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed by using {{ubl}} instead of bullets (*). The problem was that bullets, when included in the first line of a parameter's value, produce <li> elements without wrapping them in <ul> elements. Because of this, the plainlist CSS class was not applied at all. Using {{ubl}} works around this issue, and also automatically applies the plainlist class to the list. — Newslinger talk 02:15, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
