Changed Humberto Sanchez from USA to DOM - however, he was born in the DR and grew up in New York. I did this to match Manny Ramirez, who also was born in the DR and grew up in Washington Heights, as he is listed as Dominican even though he is an American citizen. Which is best?Curlingforever 23:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Player Edition question

[edit]

Should their be some way to show Roger Clemens has signed with the yankees even thought he not the the 40 man roster? Jackalsclaw 11:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. He has only signed a minor league contract at present. There is no need to put him on the roster until such time as his contract is purchased by the Yankees. - RPIRED 13:15, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No. This roster is only for the 40-man roster, which Clemens is not on as of now. Michael Greiner 18:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

why ARod removed, but not Rivera and Posada

[edit]

Why was Arod removed from the roster, but not the other free agents who have filed, including Rivera, Posada, and others? Simon12 02:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No idea, I'd remove them. Teams may have negotiating rights by the players are not members of the team anymore.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:06, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed Posada, Rivera, Rodriguez, and Molina. None of them have officially signed; if they had, the Yankees would have 43 players on the 40-man roster. I also fixed Robby Canó's name. Brad E. Williams (talk) 00:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have re-removed Posada. He has agreed to a new contract (as has Rivera), but he has not officially signed, most likely so they can protect as many players as possible from the Rule V Draft. This is evidenced by the team's official transaction page (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/index.jsp?c_id=nyy) and their 40-man roster page (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=nyy). As of right now, the only catcher on the Yankees ML roster is Francisco Cervelli. Brad E. Williams (talk) 22:26, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What does the link say, I am not subscribed to that service? What makes Crystal any different from the tons of minor leaguers that play spring training games?►Chris NelsonHolla! 15:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yankees official daily team press release: March 12 Transaction: "Signed INF Billy Crystal to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training; optioned RHPs......" That's why he's different that the minor league guys not in camp that play... he's officially in camp. JustSomeRandomGuy32 (talk) 15:52, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cervelli and Brackman both wear #64 on this roster, but the navbox template only has Cervelli with it.-DANO- (talk) 03:20, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For 2010, Nick Johnson is currently assigned #27. [1] I certainly do not want to get into an editing war here. But the source for him wearing #26 is a blog, which I don't believe is a credible source. Are we or are we not using the official team sites/rosters/press releases for these? Kjscotte34 (talk) 18:43, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's the Yankees beat writer on mlb.com... not a random blog... Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 18:45, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't matter....we have to go with what's offical, just like when a player is signed. The Yankees beat writer also says that they have signed Chan Ho Park but we can't put that up there yet. Kjscotte34 (talk) 18:47, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No... that's not how it works.... Chan Ho Park hasn't signed because the Yankees go out of their way to deny that they have signed him. It has nothing to do with it having to show up on mlb.com. Everyone is reporting that Park says he's going to the Yankees. But just like every reported deal, it's pending things like a physical, and its basically the policy of every MLB team to not comment on any transactions until they are final. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 18:49, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know how it works, regardless of how new I am here. However, MLB.com has reported they have signed him. However, it is not official for a number of reasons. I agree with you on that aspect. BUT, the same should hold true for these numbers. The Yankees official roster lists him as #26. Next week when he reports with his fellow position players. If he's wearing #27 on his back, then yes, it should be changed. But right now, he's officially listed as #26 and that's what WE should go by until the Yankees say otherwise, not their beat writer. Kjscotte34 (talk) 18:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You should read up on WP:RS. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 18:58, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bottom line - he went back to 26 [2]. Be aware though - mlb.com still isn't 'official' in any way. The only thing that could be considered 'official sources' are press releases, and once spring training games start you'll see daily pre-game notes released, and those usually have rosters listed (depending on the team). Occasionally a team mlb.com roster goes without an update for a little while, and leaving the roster here the same because of that when other sources do show the update is just plain dumb. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 19:10, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to keep an eye on this, so there aren't any conflicts: On the Yankees roster on yankees.com, Kei Igawa is listed as #27. I'm not going to change it on the Yankees roster on Wikipedia yet. If someone happens to come across another source that makes them feel comfortable changing it, by all means, please do. I'm not touching it for right now. Kjscotte34 (talk) 17:22, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He was since been listed elsewhere as #17 (like here) - and Golson is now listed as #27 on the yankees.com roster (#61 reassigned to the newly signed Chan Ho Park) Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 19:53, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Thanks for checking that out man! Kjscotte34 (talk) 11:49, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

is not listed on the Yankees 40 Man Roster on the team website.[2] I went to the AAA roster, and the word "No" is next to his name where it says "MLB 40 Man."[3] Should he be removed from here then? Kjscotte34 (talk) 16:08, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can't find one source to indicate he was sent outright to the minors. And I believe that section of the AAA roster is linked to the MLB roster automatically, so if someone is mistakenly removed from the 40-man, that page wouldn't help solve anything. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 16:17, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've been searching for it as well, with no luck. The transaction section reads "Optioned" as opposed to "Outrighted." I say we leave it, for now, but keep an eye on it. Kjscotte34 (talk) 16:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good news - he's listed again. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 18:56, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good eye! And nice job on the Nick Johnson thing- I was wondering if he was going to go back to his old number. Thanks for catching those last couple things. Kjscotte34 (talk) 20:35, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unsigned Players

[edit]

Shouldn't Jeter, Rivera, and the rest be removed until they sign (if they sign)? Technically, they are not on the Yankees, and the mlb.com/yankees.com rosters do not list the current free agents on the 40 mans. Plus, and I know wikipedia is not a RS, their wiki pages also list them as being someone "who is currently a free agent." Kjscotte34 (talk) 19:24, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's exactly the way it should be. If someone readded them, I guess it slipped through. We use the MLB.com rosters as our one and only RS on the matter. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:03, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While I'm at it, should I change the date to 11/7? I believe that free agency started on Sunday, which was the 7th, which is when the roster should have been updated. Thoughts? Kjscotte34 (talk) 19:33, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually impossible. The template has been semi-protected because there has been vandalism from people without accounts or very new accounts before. Therefore, to stop if from being continually vandalized, it had to be protected. It is impossible for us to specifically allow one (or more) IP addresses to get around this block—the software just doesn't allow it, even if we believed that you would not vandalize the page. All you need to do, actually, to be able to edit this template (and any other semi-protected page), is to register an account. After you've been editing for 4 days and made 10 edits to unprotected pages, you'll be able to edit semi-protected pages. If for some reason you are unable or unwilling to register an account, you'll need to keep editing through semi-protected requests just like this one. Spring Training 2011 Roster #'s

[edit]

I have recently checked the team roster from the website of Major League Baseball. Not everyone on the 40 Man roster and Non-roster invitees have been issued jersey numbers yet. The current revision isn't even half correct unless it came from a reliable source.

Posada as DH

Jorge Posada is a Designated Hitter, not a Catcher anymore. 96.38.139.40 (talk) 04:03, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done See above. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:09, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So, does that mean that since Nick Swisher pitched an inning in 2009 that he needs to be listed as a pitcher? That's what your logic determines, Jorge Posada did not appear at catcher at all in spring training or so far in the season, he's not a Catcher anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The gus14 (talkcontribs) 04:14, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If MLB.com lists Swisher as a pitcher, we would list Swisher as a pitcher. MLB.com lists Swisher as an outfielder and Posada as a catcher, and so do we. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:16, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inactive catchers

[edit]

I understand Molina was DFA'd, so there are no official catchers on the 40 man roster in the minor league system. However, earlier, when Posada wasn't listed on yankees.com as a DH, the words "None specified" were listed there. Should that be the case here, too? I'm just curious, if you go back in the history you'll see what I'm talking about. Kjscotte34 (talk) 01:06, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maxwell vs. Montero

[edit]

Montero wore the number in every game he played. Maxwell never wore it. It is not his number. All of the football template editors agreed that Wikipedia is about truth, and the truth is that Maxwell never wore the number. Montero did, and he is the only Yankee to do so in the regular season or playoffs last year. He should get the number, and I can gather several Wikipedia members who would agree with me. RevanFan (talk) 03:08, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not about truth. See the first sentence of Wikipedia:Verifiability. MLB.com, our source for rosters, says both have #63. They also have Whelan with no # for some reason. I don't care why, I just care what they say. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:48, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If it says they have the same number, then they have the same number. You have to understand that the NFL and MLB are completely different. For example, for the NFL, it's verifiable what number a guy has since they all practice and usually, team sites will be updated or pictures will be shown with that guy wearing number x. However, in baseball, Maxwell was never on the active roster, so we can't confirm or deny that he has #63. So, whatever MLB.com says, that's what we go with.--Giants27(T|C) 20:19, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Muboshgu and Giants27, MLB is different than NFL since their are minor leagues involved. Maxwell wore #63 in spring training and has it until the rosters get updated, but Montero will probably switch numbers anyway since he is a top prospect, so don't worry too much about the situation RevanFan, it will all clear up. 2012 NRIs

[edit]

I'm a little fuzzy on what we do for this, so if someone lets me know, I'll be happy. It's almost NRI time for the Yankees. Jayson Nix is supposedly the first signing. However, the Yankees as an organization usually announce their NRI's as a group, all on the same day, or over the course of a couple days. There is no transaction listed on their site, and the only article listed says "the New York Post reported Wednesday" which doesn't seem official to me. I'm sure there's probably an agreement, but is WP:CRYSTAL a factor here? I'm inclined to wait, but I'm certainly not disruptive to the process, as some of you know already. Kjscotte34 (talk) 13:37, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is verified[4]. They do announce the full list in late January/early February, but some verifiable NRIs do get announced earlier in the offseason. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:05, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

[edit]

I keep screwing up the template when I try to add him, but Dewayne Wise was officially signed back in December. He's a NRI. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/team/transactions.jsp?c_id=nyy#month=12&year=2011&team_id=147 Kjscotte34 (talk) 17:00, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure he's an NRI? He certainly signed a minor league deal, and there's a good chance he got an invitation to spring training, but I don't see any source say he's an NRI. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:21, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found this article: http://thetimes-tribune.com/sports/yankees-sign-three-to-minor-league-deals-1.1253625?localLinksEnabled=false#axzz1ibR3MZZw You know me, Muboshgu, I wouldn't try anything funny haha. Kjscotte34 (talk) 19:12, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I know you wouldn't screw things up willfully. I saw that article too, and it says nothing about spring training invitations. Seeing as there can be some confusion (ie, Preston Mattingly, who is reporting to minor league camp), I'd be inclined to leave Wise, Garner, Daley, etc. off until the Yankees officially announce their NRI's, which will be in the next few weeks. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:49, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Better safe than sorry! I saw the thing about Mattingly. Wise will probably be there, but yeah, let's wait. Kjscotte34 (talk) 10:43, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Branyan

[edit]

I knew he was resigned to another minor league deal, likely the whole purpose of releasing and resigning him was to nullify that $100K payment. I was under the impression though that they assigned him to minor league camp in the process. Maybe I'm wrong. All I know for sure is that the MLB.com page of NRI's is hilariously out of date. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is very simple. As of June 20, Raúl Ibañez has DH'd in 11 games, played 7 in RF, and 36 in LF.[5] He's an outfielder. – Muboshgu (talk) 13:51, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2012 Numbers

[edit]

On Yankees.com, they have removed numbers from Feliciano, Cervelli, Nunez, etc. In the spirit of keeping the template the same as mlb.com, should we replace their numbers with dashes (--)? With all the new players this year, those guys probably aren't going to get their spring training numbers back when/if they're activated. Kjscotte34 (talk) 16:04, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that we should. Who knows what numbers they'll wear when (if) they're activated as September call-ups? – Muboshgu (talk) 17:14, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. According to the source you provided, these changes aren't official yet. For the sake of stability, we try to wait until these sorts of personnel changes are more set in stone before we edit. CityOfSilver 15:30, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Starting Rotation for Wild Card Game

[edit]

This is more out of curiosity than anything else -- when there is a Wild Card game, do we reduce the starting pitchers to just the starter, in this case Severino? Obviously it changes for the next round if there is one. I don't remember what we did last year. Kjscotte34 (talk) 15:38, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Yankees season ended in the ALDS and everyone who was inactive for the postseason is back on the active roster to prepare for Free Agency. Is there by any chance that we can edit the Roster? 50.230.216.79 (talk) 14:12, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: No. The roster is as is until Free Agency actually results in changes. For prominent teams such as this one, these changes are usually implemented very quickly. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:36, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title says it all. They don't seem to be stored on this template, so it seems like it's an issue with the wider MLB roster template as a whole. RevanFan (talk) 18:09, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
