Radio Disney and ESPN Radio Stations

[edit]

We need to seperate the Radio Disney and ESPN Radio stations. Disney owns a lot more radio stations than the ones listed. Here is a list. Jonyyeh 19:28, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interactive

[edit]

03-October-2006: I have listed website names: Disney.com | ABC.com | ABCNews.com | ESPN.com, under Interactive Assets. See: Walt Disney Internet Group (also new). -Wikid77 21:15, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The new layout...

[edit]

...looks too big, clumsy and awkward. I prefer the previous version better. Best to keep templates simple. -- azumanga 05:33, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's huge. TOO huge. --Lyght 02:04, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reduce overlinking

[edit]

14-Feb-2008: Try to reduce excessive wikilinks within Template:Disney. When I added those website names in 2006, I didn't realize the "Wikipedia:Overlink crisis" but will try to unlink extra words. Many former 15-line navboxes have become "box-ified" articles about each subject, tacked to the end of hundreds of other articles. The combined effect of hundreds of overlinked navboxes has propagated millions of wikilinks choking those articles, which formerly contained perhaps 40 wikilinks each, not over 200 links each. -Wikid77 (talk) 11:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollout of Radio Stations

[edit]

14-Feb-2008: I have changed the navbox Template:Disney to rollout the section for Radio Stations, as "see Radio Disney radio stations". The change avoids duplicating the navbox radio list which had been 55% incomplete, while easily reducing navbox size by another 20% (see above: Reduce overlinking). Using a separate small navbox for each sub-topic helps reduce the navbox sizes and focuses later updates to keep a navbox more current for the related articles. The difference had been: Template:Disney listing only 24 stations rather than 56, with even the older 24 stations as excessive detail in a Disney-wide navbox. -Wikid77 (talk) 13:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollout of Parks/Resorts

[edit]

14-Feb-2008: I am changing the navbox Template:Disney to rollout the section for Parks/Resorts, as "see Walt Disney Parks and Resorts". The change avoids duplicating the navbox parks list which had been incomplete, while easily reducing navbox size by another 20% (see above: Reduce overlinking). Using a separate small navbox for each sub-topic helps reduce the navbox sizes and focuses later updates to keep a navbox more current for the related articles. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:35, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollout of TV or ABC News

[edit]

14-Feb-2008: I am changing the navbox Template:Disney to rollout the section for TV stations, as "see Walt Disney TV" or such. The change avoids duplicating the navbox TV data which had been incomplete, while easily reducing navbox size by another 25% (see above: Reduce overlinking). Using a separate small navbox for each sub-topic helps trim navbox sizes and focuses later updates to keep a navbox more current for the related articles. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:36, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Group by Category:Disney_navboxes

[edit]

14-Feb-2008: I tagged Template:Disney for Category:Disney_navboxes to help view the related navbox templates for the Walt Disney topics. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:25, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disney navboxcar off track

[edit]

01-April-2008: I was hoping that Template:Disney would be reduced in size by the recent rollout of sub-sections, but the opposite has happened: the Disney navbox has ballooned into a "nav-boxcar" adding over 60 new wikilinks this year. Again, I am focusing on the simple tactic of linking to rollout navpages to allow more space for expanding the general coverage about Walt Disney. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:01, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollout as navpages

[edit]

01-April-2008: A general subject such as the Walt Disney topics could easily include a thousand major wikilinks, not only to company divisions, officers, and franchises, but also to cultural icons, major media films, famous actors, timeless animated characters, stock-market events, etc. Consequently, the main Disney navbox has had to rollout navbox sub-topic sections into other navpages, such as to Template:ESPN and to the themeparks in Template:Disneyparks. The tactic of using rollout navpages allows more topics to be considered without an arbitrary cut-off as to what is noteworthy about Walt Disney. Currently, the rollout sections defer the wikilinks to about 450 articles of company divisions, personnel, parks, resorts, TV programs, and radio stations. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:01, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollout of Consumer Products

[edit]

01-April-2008: The section about Disney Consumer Products has been rolled out to the new Template:DisneyConsumer, created on 01-April-2008 by long-term Wikipedia user Wikid77 (me), as a rollout section from Template:Disney to allow more space for expanding the coverage about Walt Disney. Formerly, people held long debates to limit what topics could be included for linking articles in the Template:Disney navbox. It is so much easier to just create a sub-section as another external navpage; then, connect that new navpage, by just one wikilink in Template:Disney, to view that navpage's 50 or 100 related Disney articles. Let readers choose which sub-navpages they wish to see, without intense debates about excluding topics because Template:Disney would become too large: simply rollout each section to handle each portion of the thousand related articles in a logical manner. This is a case where the subject ("Disney") really covers over 1,000 major articles, so using a rollout navpage is an excellent solution to a massive problem. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:01, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correction in the ABC-owned televisions stations

[edit]

Yea, um, WFTS-TV (I think) is a ABC-owned station down here in Florida. :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.103.58.2 (talk) 00:20, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion to hlist

[edit]

I thought I would take a minute to explain to you why I have introduced changes to this template. One reason for changing the templates is to improve accessibility for visually impaired users using a screen reader. Whenever a screen reader encounters a dot, it calls out the word "dot". The material presents as a lot of tiny disjointed paragraphs rather than a list. With the new mark-up, the screen reader will announce that a list is coming, and then will proceed to read out the items on the list. Application of the hlist class is about presenting the material as actual lists, which helps not just people with vision issues, but those viewing the site using phones and other non-traditional devices. Search engines also will read lists better.

The use of the dots is now deprecated, and have been since August. Each dot requires the application of a template, and templates are expensive, as they increase server load. There are limits as to how many templates can be placed on a page. Application of the latest method, using listclasses and bodyclasses to create the lists, results in a reduction in post-expand include size of 84.5% and a reduction in template argument size of 88% on this template. This is a substantial improvement that will lead to quicker load times for pages and a better experience for our viewing audience.

The transition has not been trouble free; some kinks have had to be ironed out, and there may still be a ways to go. However, we have the templates displaying adequately in the two latest versions of the problematic Internet Explorer (IE8 and IE9), and we can't hold back development of Wikipedia for older, buggy browsers. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, -- Dianna (talk) 19:36, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of a navbox

[edit]

I was always under the impression that a navbox was intended to assist viewers to navigate to related articles. What then is the point of having an huge list of Company officials where about a dozen of them have no articles to navigate to? Surely this template is not meant to replace List of management of The Walt Disney Company? --RexxS (talk) 22:26, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a huge wad of internal link spam. See the bottom of ESPN, for example. The wad of navboxes takes 850kb of preprocessing. This reasonable version is about where this should go. The trim occurred a few weeks back. I'll ping that editor. Alarbus (talk) 08:58, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even the orginial overexpander of this navbox wanted the navbox cut down as point outhere. --Spshu (talk) 16:10, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 20 April 2012

[edit]

Hi, I am the Visibility Specialist at Disney Interactive, and I noticed that links to the Mom portfolio are missing. We just did a redesign of our site www.babyzone.com/ and would like to insert the anchor text below into the Family Portfolio section. Please call me directly at (818) 623-6998 or email me at angela.x.check.-nd@disney.com to verify this request.

Please edit this section and place an anchor text into "Mom".

Thank you, Angela Check

We don't put text in a template like that. This is not the Disney article, it is a template for what we call a navigation box where people can quickly find Disney-related articles. I think you may be in the wrong place.--Wehwalt (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disney's international subsidiaries...

[edit]

Shouldn't Disney CIS, France, India, Italy, & Latin America be listed as international subsidiaries of Disney? 76.235.248.47 (talk) 10:06, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please change "(Distribution · Touchstone Pictures)" to just "(Distribution)", because Touchstone isn't considered a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, but moreso its sister company within The Walt Disney Studios. 76.235.248.47 (talk) 09:38, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Touchstone Pictures is currently primarily a distribution label for the DreamWorks Studios films (and a recent Lucasfilms animated feature) distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures as Disney basically dropped Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Buena Vista Pictures as actual production companies at least publicly. Yes, the production arm and the distribution arm currently use the same name, but are separate historically; WDSMP Production is under the common name of Walt Disney Pictures). I have changed to hopefully clarify Touchstone position. Spshu (talk) 16:43, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
