[edit]@Yamla, following up from here, do you have a sense of how often this decline is used in situations where the current text doesn't really fit? Some rewording might be needed. Sdkb talk 17:39, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Well, that kind of begs the question. In your opinion, why wasn't Tulsi's unblock request acted upon? What change, in your opinion, would be necessary for someone to take action? Keep in mind nobody did act in three weeks and we can certainly assume several administrators viewed the request. I'd guess perhaps 1/10th of unblock requests aren't acted upon. That means they aren't obvious declines but also aren't convincing enough to accept. Or alternatively, the user has simply exhausted the pool of unblock reviewers, which doesn't appear to be the case here. Note that my tone here is "very open to a discussion on this" and "very open to you modifying the text of the template", but also note I leave on a short vacation in less than a day. :) --Yamla (talk) 19:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- It makes sense that middling requests are often the ones unacted upon. My tone here is one of "I've blocked a total of 1 user and unblocked a total of 0, so I'm trying to learn about this area and figure out what improvements might be helpful". The fact that the template text didn't fit in the situation I came across indicates that the text might need to be made vaguer. But the risk of doing that is that the vaguer templated text is, the more it comes across as bureaucratic and impersonal. Sdkb talk 20:14, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yeap. :) It's legitimately a tricky line to walk. I'm honestly not sure what would be helpful here, what rewording would result in more admins taking action. What's really disappointing is when people just immediately open a new unblock request with exactly the same wording, or only a slight modification. Maybe we need an unblock decline template that says "NO GO BACK AND READ WHAT WE TOLD YOU" in a nice way. --Yamla (talk) 20:25, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
