UAE
[edit]This is a quibble, but it doesn't seem quite right to put the UAE on this template -- the President of the state is theoretically a republican office, elected from the council of rulers, though de facto it's always going to be the Emir of Abu Dhabi. --Jfruh (talk) 12:31, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Jfruh:Well, because he is elected by rulers of 7 absolute emirates, he can in no way be called "republican". I do have an uneasy feeling about the caption "Officially President" though. Why is "Officially" there? Do we mean to say that the office is de facto hereditary? In that case we would have to include de facto hereditary dictatorships like Syria. If we mean to say that UAE president is president, we don't need the word "Officially" mentioned. In any case, it is quite difficult to judge who should be considered a monarch and who should not. --Yomal Sidoroff-Biarmskii (talk) 05:36, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
