Northern Khmer dialect

... that the Northern Khmer dialect is spoken by descendants of the Khmer Empire native to the Isan region of Thailand?

Length & date okay, but I don't think it would be technically correct to call a people descendants of an empire. Not quite sure how to better phrase this. How about:
- ... that isolated from their fellow people after the fall of the Khmer Empire, the Khmer living in what is now Thailand's Isan region developed the Northern Khmer dialect?

Still not very catchy though. If the bit about karaoke lyrics being one of the few places where the dialect appears in Khmer script can be cited, that would make a good hook. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:45, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I struggled with the choice of "descendants" as well. At first I used "remnant", but that sounded like they were continuing the Empire or still alive from the time of the Empire. I couldn't find any readily available reliable sources in English regarding the karaoke lyrics bit. Considering it's a lot of information to convey in less than 200 characters, the re-phrasing you suggest is fine.--William Thweatt ^Talk ^Contribs 16:45, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
