2015 White Sox–Orioles crowdless game

[edit]
  • Reviewed: Benjamin Ladraa
  • Comment: As should be clear I would like this to run on April 29, the third anniversary of the game. Yes, Sunday.

Created by Daniel Case (talk) and Charlesaaronthompson (talk). Nominated by Daniel Case (talk) at 19:06, 25 April 2018 (UTC).

  • New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. All images in article freely licensed. QPQ done.
  • I left a note on the article talk page about the choice of page name. I think it omits too much (the sport, the year), and also gives this topic significance that no other source gives it, capitalizing the name as if it were a proper name. Please see my comment there. A page move would not affect the target link, but the term "Crowdless Game" should be lowercase.
Done As noted at the talk page, I have made this move. Daniel Case (talk) 01:16, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
  • The ALT0 hook is probably the best, but the two sources you give in the lead for "only crowdless game ever played by Major League Baseball teams" do not say that; footnote 2 only says it was the "first" in MLB history. So that needs to be changed in the article and hook. ALT1 is verified and cited inline; it's actually a pretty funny hook if you click through and listen to the call. I might add "in the low tone of voice of golf announcers..." or something that would indicate he was talking in an empty stadium. ALT2 is a nice hook, but it doesn't state this explicitly in the article. ALT3 is also good; verified and cited inline. I've struck ALT4 for being too wordy and off-topic. @Yoninah:  Done I have changed the hooks from "only" to "first", a choice I had originally made because the related Announcerless Game; when I wrote that one it was 35 years in the past and was at that point very definitely "only". However, I guess three years is not yet enough time for this one to be so definitely the "only".

I'm glad you like ALT1 so much; I would like it most of all on the Main Page too and as such I have incorporated your suggestion. Daniel Case (talk) 01:59, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Oh, and here's one other hook I had meant to include:
ALT5: ... that although no fans were allowed to watch the Orioles beat the White Sox 8–2 three years ago today, it was standing room only in the press box?Source"Ironically, on a day when no fans were allowed in the stands, it was standing room only on the press level", The Baltimore Sun, April 29, 2015. • Thank you for the new page name and other changes. ALT5 is nice, but ALT1 is better IMO. I really like the word "hushed"; it plays off the "crowdless" part. ALT1 hook ref verified and cited inline. Rest of review above. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 13:23, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
