Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee is a video game of the fighting game genre released in 2005 by Konami. This game is an excellent example of breaking the fourth wall in video games. Mostly, after losing a fight, the character may say some quotes directed at the player. Some examples include:
- Leonardo's "You gotta work with me here."
- Michelangelo's "C'mon bro. You gotta use me better than that."
- Raphael's "Look... don't get me mad, human. I'll bust outta ya TV and rot ya."
- The Shredder's "If I could come out of your TV, you'd be very sorry, now!"
- April's "You're making me look bad."
- Casey's "We're supposed to be working together, right? Now help me out here."
- Hun's "We're a good team. You wanna touch my muscles?
Adventure story
By beating levels you earn tokens for the Library.
There are ten campaigns with only four available in the beginning: Leonardo, Raphael, Don and Michelangelo. The game combines playing both in good guys' and bad guys' campaigns: seven with the heroes (four available in the beginning and three unlockable) and three with the villains. The adventure story combines elements of all types of matches and numerous boss fights. Some players find the adventure story levels too difficult.
Multiplayer modes
Besides the main story, players may compete with all story mode fighters, new ones like Sleeg (a boss) and new character costumes (for example the bandana Hun).Multiplayer game modes include Melee Match, King of the Hill, and Keep Away.
Melee Match
Melee match has two submodes Last man standing and Knock Out.
Last Man Standing
Fight until there's only one player left Standing.
Knock Out
By knocking out a player you gain one KO, The player with the most KOs at the end of the level wins.
King of the Hill
Stand in the circle object witch appears randomly in level to gain point.
Keep Away
Hold the chest, to gain points. note: you can't attack when holding it.
Weapons
Weapons include Missile Launchers, axes, Swords, and other weapons like a baseball bat and a spiked club. Using a weapon allows the player deal more damage. However the weapon makes the character hit slower and the weapon disappears after several hits.
Library
The Library is an archive of TMNT backgrounds, character profiles with 'interviews', artwork, comic covers, video clips and more. Many things require you to buy them with tokens to view.
