Does not exist

[edit]

Zr(O2CR)4 compounds do not exist. For folks who know the basics, this formulation makes sense, but that's not enough.--Smokefoot (talk) 14:36, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Smokefoot: I was able to find a compound known as zirconium propionate, but can you find the actual formula for this compound? One of the references I added shows a structure containing propionate and hydroxide complexed to Zr. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:28, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well it aint Zr(O2CR)4. I am sure that all sorts of stuff can be made with propionic acid and zirconium. But the article claims the 1:4 complex. Highly oxophilic metals tend not to produce binary carboxylates, i.e. M(O2CR)n. Instead, they make basic carboxylates (basic zinc acetate, zirconyl acetate). Its kind of a pet topic of mine but the theme is topical in the MOF area.--Smokefoot (talk) 17:35, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
