I hope to get round to adding a little geology soon. Would it not make sense for the page to be moved to Yell, Shetland? Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 11:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That seems to make sense to me. Lurker (said · done) 16:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I was thinking "Isle of Yell" (before you mentioned this), but both work, so I'm not really bothered. Both are an improvement, the current name is clumsy. --MacRusgail (talk) 00:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The geology of Yell from what I've read in H-S and elsewhere looks quite interesting. There's a few interesting rock formations, gloups etc. --MacRusgail (talk) 00:29, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]

A brief lookover this article's weak points as they stand. Please feel free to edit this message as you wish (that doesn't mean you, vandals!). --MacRusgail (talk) 18:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion/inclusion of the following needed

[edit]
  • Shipwrecks
  • History from approx. 1000-1800
  • Modern History
  • Flora
  • Dialect (if enough info).
  • Media/Arts. If appropriate add genuinely relevant info, but avoid trivia.
  • Population (details of former and current) [+ relative size of settlements]
  • Prominent residents or natives. These should of course be referenced.
  • Attractions (if not already mentioned)
  • Economy
  • Ecclesiastical connections

Sea Eagles

in some sources are listed as having nested last at the Ern Stack rather than the Eigg. Anyone got a definitive source? I am going to try and chase up some more literary references. George MacKay Brown is a good start.--MacRusgail (talk) 21:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just spent 10 mins copy editing fauna and then got caught in an edit conflict. Hopefully I can put them back in if you can confirm you have completed any changes to this section in the meantime. Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 16:02, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you were editing at the same time as me, but if it's "any consolation", I won't be online tomorrow! (Sunday) - MacR
I wasn't complaining about your high levels of contribution! - I just wanted to be sure you were finished. Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 10:19, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Hope it got sorted. I have to say I continue to disagree with the use of the word machair as this isn't really a Gaelic area. It's geographically but not culturally correct. --MacRusgail (talk) 14:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think so. Machair is only linked, not actually used in the text. Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 16:43, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions - is there a citation for the Hugh Miles doc awards? Is there a difference between 'dune habitat' and machair? Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 16:03, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't really a difference, but machair is a Gaelic term, and inappropriate to the Northern Isles, and east coast (links would be on the east coast of Scotland, and machair/machar along the western seaboard. Orkney and Shetland probably have their own terms) I'll check up where I got the Hugh Miles stuff from. --MacRusgail (talk) 23:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC) p.s. Think Miles ref is either Penrith or Blackadder (Penrith's back in the library - so will be Mon/Tues before confirmation)[reply]

Bot report : Found duplicate references !

In the last revision I edited, I found duplicate named references, i.e. references sharing the same name, but not having the same content. Please check them, as I am not able to fix them automatically :)

Assessment comment

[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Yell, Shetland/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

A potential GA candidate. The lead needs attention, there are too many red links, a little more needed on economy, and some minor copy editing. There are a fair number of refs that need tidying up as well. Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 08:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
