Translation

[edit]

I did a re-translation from the German original. It's certainly much better than the very poor translation available before, but my German is not perfect, and there are probably some errors.

I think the original translation must have been done by machine. For example, it converted "Paul Koch" to "Paul Cook," which I can't believe any human being would do. Of course it was helpless with separable verbs, and the entire translation was literal word-for-word. Wallace McDonald (talk) 11:01, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

letters "Ia" in front of German military rank

[edit]

What is the meaning of "la" (letters "I" as in India and "a" as in alpha), in the following passage that mentions "Ia Major von Stülpnagel"? "...Captain Rohr spoke at the command post of General-Commando 3 (GKo 3) in Nouillon-Pont on March 13, 1916, before General von Lochow, the Chief of Staff, Colonel Wetzell and Ia Major von Stülpnagel..." 68.35.173.107 (talk) 16:22, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Took some searching, but it appears to mean Generalstabsoffizier. See the first paragraph here and the first entry in this glossary. I linked the term to the wp entry. Eric talk 21:30, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Partially correct. It's the Operations Officer. See Armeeoberkommando. 155.213.224.59 (talk) 17:46, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
