Conventional hull (USN destroyer)

When the destroyer I served on (DD-789) was hitting the sides of waves in stormy weather, being below decks, far forward, was like riding a high-speed elevator with its control system gone haywire. Acceleration was hard to judge, but might have been as much as 0.5 G.
