Should there be a section on industry and economy, similar to Dalby, Queensland, Dalby, Queensland, Roma, Queensland? --DavidMarsh (talk) 03:08, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The link to the web site of the now defunct Warwick Shire Council should be removed and replaced by a link to the newly formed Southern Downs Regional Council. --124.177.85.219 (talk) 11:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article at one point says "in the mid 90s" is this the 18 or 1990s --Mokgen 10:11, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

My 26 December 2021 edit restored correct pronunciation of Warwick but it was reverted.

The user who reverted, Random_League_Fan, does not currently have a user page. It was their edit on 9 December 2021 that changed WORR-ik to the incorrect WAR-wik.

@Lyn50: G'day, Lyn, I used to live in Warwick and agree with your edit. WORR-ik is a closer approximation to the pronunciation than WAR-wik, in my opinion. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 07:50, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AustralianRupert: I have lived there too. I think it might be an obscure joke at Warwick's expense. If you say "war wick" it does sound comical. Thanks, Lyn50 (talk) 11:18, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Random League Fan: can you please clarify why you reverted Lyn's edit here: [1]. Personally, I believe Lyn's edit was correct and would support reversion back to their version. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 04:35, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As a long time Queenslander and recent visitor to Warwick, I agree with you both. You might like to cite [2]. It definitely ends with an "ick" not a "wick". Kerry (talk) 04:35, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As a W#arwick resident and presenter at the Community Radio Station, I can confirm that the pronunciation being put forward as "WORR-ick" is correct. The second "w" in the name Warwick is effectively silent and the 'a' is said as a 'o'.

Some vehicle GPS spoken references to Warwick amusingly pronounce it incorrectly as "war-wick" and it is possible that this has contributed to the confuzzlement as to the correct pronunciation.
