Her Majesty's Voice

[edit]

Sometime when I was still in high school, a recording of what appears to be Queen Victoria's voice was made public. The audio condition was bad - it was on a roll not a disc - but her voice could not be made out. I have no idea what her Majesty's voice sounded like, but I do know her mother tongue was German and she never fully mastered the English language, although, if that recording was any indication, she did speak English fluently.173.206.80.153 (talk) 09:30, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The relevancy being? EmilySarah99 (talk) 10:01, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"her mother tongue was German and she never fully mastered the English language" = utter garbage, disproven by the article text and the sources therein. DrKay (talk) 18:07, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting piece on the possible recording here. Johnbod (talk) 03:49, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, what do you think about to use this short recording as a sample of her voice? https://blogs.bl.uk/files/queen-victoria.mp3 Taken from here: https://blogs.bl.uk/sound-and-vision/2019/05/bicentenary-of-queen-victoria-is-this-her-voice.html Dmitry Azikov (talk) 12:45, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a washboard being dragged down a gravel road, so I think not ... 2603:6080:21F0:67F0:7105:D364:3999:BB71 (talk) 07:14, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please add the category Category:Mothers of Saxon monarchs. 98.228.137.44 (talk) 00:17, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Awhellnawr123214 (talk) 01:10, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please add the category Category:Mothers of Saxon monarchs to the list of categories at the bottom of the article, as Queen Victoria's second son Alfred became Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.98.228.137.44 (talk) 01:22, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, under the section of marriage and public life on Queen Victoria's page there is a slight error I seem to have found.

In the sixth paragraph it states: "On 29 May 1842, Victoria was riding in a carriage along The Mall, London, when John Francis aimed a pistol at her...". According to the diary and journal of the queen, it states this was the 30th of may 1842; not the 29th. Please let me know if any reference is needed.

I am sure you will be able to see this for yourself in her diary.

I hope this is okay and will be changed if I have correctly concluded this is a mistake. If not then I apologise.

Thank you, I hope this was clear and informative.

Warm regards, Rory Howard Roryjmhoward (talk) 17:59, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done As stated in the article, Francis aimed the pistol on the 29th but did not fire. The following day he shot at her. DrKay (talk) 19:15, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clearing this up. I just double checked today and have seen I was completely mistaken. I had misinterpreted the information quote drastically. Thank you again Roryjmhoward (talk) 12:08, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Queen's Nursing Institute

[edit]

Under the section Golden and Diamond Jubilees there is no mention of the legacy of Queen Victoria with the formation of Queen’s Nurses. On 20 September 1889 Queen Victoria issued a Royal Charter and the Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Institute for Nurses was constituted. This was the beginning of organised district nursing in the UK. The Queen’s Nursing Institute still exists today and I did wonder if this could be added to the page on Queen Victoria? SueCampbellGH (talk) 18:02, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is an encyclopedia article—not a journal article, not a book-length biography, not a multi-volume monograph—about Victoria. Remsense ‥  18:07, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Despite objections, this has been edit-warred into the article. It's not even covered at Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, so it shouldn't be here. At best, it should be moved to the article on the jubilee. This article should be a Wikipedia:Summary style article, with each section being a brief summary of the articles on each subtopic. It should not be a miscellaneous mix of each editor's pet hobby horse. Celia Homeford (talk) 09:52, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it's undue and is badly formatted as a single sentence paragraph. We can't list everything that happened at each jubilee or list all the things that were founded or established in the Victorian era or were named after her. There are too many of them for this summary article. DrKay (talk) 18:01, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
